In honor of Harvick and Keselowski making the playoffs and the series going to Daytona next week, I present one of the best Nascar videos of all time...

FIGHT! Post-race brawl between Gordon and Keselowski

Best comment: "Just when you need a little shove to start fighting, Budweiser is there."

I love the road races. Been watching since 1997. That was hands down the worst road course race I’ve ever watched. Hamlin holding everyone up, preventing anyone else from getting to Byron was just embarrassing. Aero should never be a problem on road courses. It was today.

blame the new POS car

also how about nascar rigging the race to prevent a former Indycar guy from winning 2 in a row

One of the best road course races I've ever seen.

I'm a little confused why we are singing the Canada national anthem on US soil?

B/c Watkins Glen is only 2 hours from the border and you have a lot of Canuck racing fans who come down to watch the race.

Same w/Michigan and New Hampshire

So will they start singing Mexican NA at Texas race. Chyna when in Cali? I mean, it still should only be US Anthem. If they ever go race in Canada then by all means play it.

Was a quick race less than 2:15 clock time. Pretty boring, but nascar has mostly taken any fun away and drivers are all too polite. Only action was the 3 and 5 on last lap.

And at other tracks when theres a spin with approaching traffic they throw yellow. Today we had a few spins around traffic and nothing. It makes no sense.

I wonder if the 9 would swap crew chiefs next year but Gus did win a title with Chase. Its just not their year. Chase out 6 races for broken leg. Chase out for whiney Hamlin ratting him out in social media. And Gus running Chase out of gas. Just not their year, gas or no gas he was never going to win today. They will try for a win in last 13 but not going anywhere. Next year though, they’ll be ready. And I doubt they change crew chiefs.

Road America is such a better track than this one. Not the tracks fault its this newer car races like shite on this type track. Not many places to pass. Need to make the bus stop bigger so its more of a bend (so move it to right about 15 feet as you race). That would require more slowing down to navigate. And the sweeping corners don’t allow passing either.

But this car is too even plus little wiggle room to tinker with. The new nascar, parades of ads driving around. Until advertisers realize its fading due to leadership. And take their money elsewhere. Lawnmower racing is likely more exciting than nascar these days.

Dude there were Canucks all over that track this w/e attending the race. There is no issue singing their anthem when you are 2 hours from the border and both Canadians and Americans are attending the race.

Quit being obtuse.

If you feel this way then quit watching.

Also I have a feeling Chase has a new CC next year, miscalculating gas mileage in a must-win situation is unforgivable and Rick and Gordon can't be happy. And Jeff was there to see it.

Once again you missed the bigger question. If they play Canadien Anthem due to some being in crowd then at what point do they play Mexican Anthem when racing in Texas? Or other Anthems depending on where and what audience?

Once they head down this slope it doesn’t stop. Does Homestead play Cuban Anthem when racing at Homestead? What Anthem will be played when they return to Cali? Where does the madness stop? Its not the Olympics its Nascar. National is the forst word, not International.

Whenever I decide to quit watching I sure as hell won’t get your approval. You never answered any questions I pondered, just a snarky reply.

I wonder for road races if they went with F1 rules for track limits if that would help? It would require more slowing down and speeding up which might allow more passing. And if penalty is strong enough some would slow down too much to avoid penalty and allow a driver who drove it just right a chance to pass comimg out of corner.

Bringing back stage cautions is not the answer and would only mask the problems with this car. Fix the car and everything else is fixed. Put some smaller width tires on (less grip). Add a push to pass button (been saying this). And loosen up on some car rules, to allow more tinkering by teams.

Until they fix the car there will be more boring races. There are still some good ones too.

Daytona is always a crash fest and luck and some tweaks to car always win. I expect Hendrick to go all out to have 24/5 help push 9/48 to a win to get them in.

Side note the 9 car is in 16th in owners points, so will be in the owners Chase, providing they score more than 23 at Daytona (32 points ahead I think). That is a big deal for owners piece of money pie.

NASCAR and Netflix have announced a docu-series for this year’s playoffs that will premiere in early 2024. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is one of the executive producers.

quote:

NASCAR and Netflix announced a partnership Monday for a new documentary series that will tell the in-depth story of the 2023 Cup Series Playoffs.

The docuseries — a collaboration that partners the streaming service with production companies Words + Pictures and NASCAR Studios — is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in early 2024. The format is scheduled to showcase the Cup Series postseason with behind-the-scenes insights in five episodes of 45 minutes each.

Filming has already begun on the series, which will detail the title bids of the 16-driver field through the 10 races that will decide the Cup Series championship.

quote:

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. is among the list of executive producers, joining Ben Kennedy, Tim Clark, Matt Summers and Tally Hair of NASCAR Studios on the productions side. That group will partner with Connor Schell and Libby Geist (who both worked on The Last Dance 30 for 30 and OJ: Made in America) and Aaron Cohen of Words + Pictures.

Given the popularity of F1: Drive to Survive, NASCAR is smart to capitalize on this.

There’s a lot of smoke circulating on dedicated racing message boards that MJ and Denny H. are looking to switch 23xl to Ford and negotiating the potential purchase of a charter from Stewart-Haas. I don’t see how Denny could do that and still work for Gibbs.

It would explain the holdup with Denny's contract with JGR, and perhaps why the FedEx extension talk suddenly went silent and he hasn't raced their paint scheme in a couple of months.

Gustafson feeling the heat:

quote:

Chase Elliott had put himself in a position to take a shot at the leaders if a restart happened, but he ran out of fuel first. When Elliott came to a stop on the track at Watkins Glen, he asked what happened, and his crew chief gave the NASCAR driver a bleak answer. “Bad information.”

Alan Gustafson has made some great calls in his career, and also some highly questionable ones. As Elliott came to a halt on the track, it was clear the driver was frustrated. But he also looked dejected. Defeated, as the broadcast looked at his onboard camera. His teammate raced to victory 45 laps later.

After the race, Gustafson told Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports that he wasn’t going to discuss the matter.

“That’s internal stuff,” Gustafson said. “I’m not going to go over our internal struggles in the media, and I’m certainly not going to educate everybody else on the problem.”

“To win, you have to have very little margin,” the crew chief continued. “That’s what winning is — you’re going to make sure you exploit everything to the highest percentile possible."

“Any time you’re trying to push, you’re cutting margins, That gets riskier and riskier."

I still maintain that Gustafson is out after the season.

You can't make a fuel miscalculation in a must-win situation. Especially at Hendrick.

No way he’s out.

1. These teams have men behind the scenes doing all the calcs on fuel. Gus got bad info.

2. Gus won a title with Chase a few years ago

3. They were not winning fuel or not.

4. Chase is the reason they miss the Chase. He broke his own leg. He wiped out Denny Tattletale. He alone is the sole reason not Gus. They have run pretty decent when Chase is in the car but not good enough to win. Nascsr made changes to car off sesson and Chase having less time in seat means they had less time to fine tune to his needs.

If they fire Gus it would be the worst firing in a long time. He is not why they missed the chase. Chase is.

Chase broke his leg then was suspended a race and it's the crew chief's fault he is missing the playoffs?

I'll reiterate, you can't make a miscalculation w/fuel mileage in a must-win situation like that, whether it was ultimately his calculations or not, he still should have verified everything before making the decision on fuel.
