At a bare minimum I figure at some point later in the season Max may need to take engine penalties that might put him too far back to drive to the front, they’ll stagger those penalties so that Perez can/should win, however at Sergio’s rate he may not be able to get it done.

Perez has provided just about every second of F1 entertainment this season. It’s been pretty boring outside of his failures.

I'm going to say RBR doesn't win tomorrow.

They have all the pace to do so, but Max starting further back picks up some damage and Checo doesn't have the pace.

You're only saying that because Ferrari have managed to not step on the dicks as much as they normally do. They are still king

Georgie will start right behind max. The odds of a first corner incident are much better than even.

You think because they turned into a midfield team mired in mediocrity and somehow cannot come out after the summer break and shock the world is clearly born of an ignorance of history. They can still call a driver in to the pits while he is passing on the outside of the pit in. They can say box no no don't box within 3 secs of a car turning on to pit rlane and then having 4 different tires waiting. You have no idea who you are talking about

ETA: And when Harry Potter rises from the ashes at Alpine the entire game will change

Until Arrivabene comes back I hope they are cursed.

One of the coolest people to ever walk the paddock

Googled to see how his soccer managing career was going
quote:

Arrivabene has been an independent board member of Italian football club Juventus F.C. since 2012.[1] Former CEO of Juventus, on 28 November 2022, the entire Juventus board of directors, including Arrivabene, resigned from their respective roles amid scandal.[6] On 20 January 2023, Arrivabene was suspended for two years from holding office in Italian football as punishment for capital gain violations as part of the Plusvalenza scandal.[7][8]

That reads as he needs a job

Honestly at this point I sort of hope Red Bull wins every race this season. It’s never been done before, and may never have a chance to be done again.

I’ll accept all the downvotes

What I find interesting is that they sort of spell out that Checo pushed Hamilton onto the kerb by squeezing him. In return Hamilton understeered and even though Checo didn't have to give him room, he could have.

This isn't putting blame on Checo, but the reasoning makes it even less clear on it not being ruled a racing incident. Checo bet his car and Lewis bet his car that the other would back out, Checo even put Lewis in a bad spot to force the decision.

I don't know. I get how the FIA rules it, but slow motion and all this data might be killing the hard racing and hard fighting. The "bully" on the inside is rewarded for pushing someone wide; if that person doesn't bet their car.

Dive late, take the whole track, make them back out and if they decide to challenge then whoever survives gets penalized.

You make a solid analysis of that decision, and I agree it should have been a racing incident. He went for the gap. Let the chips fall where they may. And I totally agree decisions like this that discourage hard racing are unfortunate and not good for the sport.

Speaking of Russell, I was just listening to an IndyCar podcast hosted by James Hinchcliffe (former driver and race winner), and Alexander Rossi (current driver and former F1 driver), and Hinch brought up Russell:

quote:

Hinch: But anyway, George Russell. Your guy, your boy. I had a friend of mine text me the other day, and he was like, "I got something to tell ya. My wife and I, we watch a lot of F1, and I'm a big George Russell fan. And she does not like George Russell. She doesn't get it, and we fight about it all the time." And he was like, "Then, I started listening to your guys's podcast, and... especially when Rossi started going off on him, then I started watching the races, and listening to what you guys were saying about him, and now I can't stand him! I don't know why, I just can't stand him, and you guys did that."

Tim (their producer): Alex did that. I don't have an opinion on George Russell.

Hinch: My strongest opinion on George Russell is about his radio etiquette post passes. But yes, he was like, "Yeah, no I get it now, I don't know what it is I see, but I see what Alex sees, and now I don't like him, and I'm annoyed."

I missed Rossi's original rant from a previous episode, so I don't know what he said, but I think the vagueness of this is kind of funny anyway because if you don't like Russell you can fill in the blanks yourself.

I really hate F1's passing rules.

I don't care if the guy only has a foot of his car inside. You turn into him and wreck yourself that should be on you, but it's not.

FIA makes it way too complicated with "where was the overtaking car's front wheel compared to the other car", etc, etc.

Remember Mick and Max coming to the line at Silverstone last year? Mick was actually inside Max, but he simply chopped across and Mick backed way out to avoid contact as he wasn't wheel to front wheel.

*I wouldn't have lifted if I was Mick. He had a lot more to gain.

respectfully, that didn't happen. Checo ran way wide entering the first right hander and left 2 cars width which Lewis drove into and actually was slightly ahead. The 2nd turn was tighter and Lewis was entering at a worse angle which was going to cause him to push a little wider. He didn't dive bomb at the last second, the corner was his and checo surely could see him alongside. Lewis backed off a bit to make the corner or they would have banged wheels which in hindsight would have been better but whatever. Look at the gap checo left and tell me 100% of drivers wouldn't have driven right through it. Checo has to know the guy is there and run wider or risk exactly what happened. Lewis' only fault was letting off and not finishing the pass that he had already started.

I am indifferent on Russell, but I like all the hate because he is just a middle of the road British frick.

Seems like he was raised saying the British equivalent of yes ma'am and no ma'am, but is still a eurotrash redneck racing cars so he doesn't fit into the mold all the time.
