Let it echo in the Dawson County foothills all night!

Same. I'm usually pretty calm when I watch sports but when he made that move to the top and then beat Blaney to the line I let out a loud yell and big fist pump.

That move Chase made was similar to Xfinity race move for win. He owes Jones a huge thanks. Blaney could have tried to control both lanes but drivers at fromt are afraid to make wrong move and lose too many points. Hamlin said same thing, that he didn’t want to follow Chase and get stuck in middle and fall back 10 or 15 spots.

The playoff is a blessing and a curse. Without it more drivers make risky moves (and likely cause crashes). With it they are thinking points if above cut line.

So glad we didn’t have a big one! On to the Roval. Chase to me is fave as he can take more chances than other playoff drivers. And he’s good on road races too.

On Chase making moves, in years past he would not have done that for fear of offending someone. He left Larson out to dry in stage 2 to get win. (Larson still got 3rd). With Jones, Chase moved high which put air on Jones car and Chase came back down ahead of Blaney. This left Jones falling back at finish. Glad to see Chase get some killer instinct.

Remember the move he put on Lajoie to win at Atlanta back in July. Same thing. Moved high to block Lajoie and Lajoie over-corrected and was done

Chase will be an a-hole when necessary. You are right that 3 or 4 years ago he wouldn't do what he did today.

You are correct. But he did let Larson start on inside of him at earlier road race and got taken out. I think at that point he realized he was going to take care of himself going forward. Doesn’t mean he won’t race professionally and give way, just that at crunch time he’s broke free of worrying about others.

Something not mentioned this thread. Chase has the nost wins and most consistancy of all drivers this year. This car is the most in history “evenly matched” due to rule changes and new car. I think this season shows how good a driver he is since more things are nuetral than ever before.

Chase Elliott is pretty consistent. Factor in new car this year too.

Average finishes:
2020 - 11.7
2021 - 11.4
2022 - 11.5

He pretty consistently has one of the better cars in the field too

One might say races get called when hes in the lead pretty consistently too. I'm not saying it, but someone might.

I read the 24 appeal is this Thu. They might have a leg to stand on too and if they win appeal that changes first 4 out.

Remember when Denny spent “laps” with an “s” trying to take out Chastain earlier this year? No penalty of any kind.

The points penalty for 24 was way over the top and only happened because Denny whined and can’t take his payback (Denny ran him into wall).

If they present film of Denny acting wrecklessly in his Chastain fued race its possible the 24 can win points appeal.

If one compares this year to past history I think its fair to say there is way more parity now than back in Petty days or Dale Sr days wouldn’t you? Although those were the best of times in nascar there was so much more open rules and ways to bend them. Even Wild Bill had a 7/8 sized Thunderbird one time.

My point is there are very few differences in cars now compared to the past and Chase has to be a good driver to be so consistent. He maximises what his car is each week.

I think it shows him to be a top tier driver due to much higher competition throughout the field. Any advantages he has are way less than what good teams used to have.

I didn't think you could do worse than your Kirby thread from Saturday night, but you did.

Chase was born, raised, and still lives in Georgia(Dawson County).

Be better.

Now there is, for the vast majority of Elliots career I don't think so.

But its admittedly impressive that he has been winning a lot with a more even field. I don't think hes a bad driver by any means, but I don't think hes like a KB or Larson level guy either. So I don't know if its that Elliot has taken a leap to become closer to that KB/Larson level, if Hendrick found something, things just fell his way this year (which if we are honest is a big part of racing.. any of these guys can get unlucky hitting debris and cutting tires, get caught up in other people's wrecks, etc) or what. Probably some combination of those.

Bowman will be out again this weekend. Gragson will fill in again.

Shame that these drivers are having to deal with this in 2022.
