With the win being taken away no way Hamlin let’s that be the payback for Chastain.

It has happened before.

Ricky Rudd got a win pulled in 1989 IIRC at Sonoma.

It wasn't a win being pulled but Mark Martin had 35 points pulled at Richmond in 1991 for an illegal manifold IIRC. Cost Martin the championship. Roush never forgave NASCAR for that.

lol if you think that something like this is good for the sport. Just further cements the general publics perception that this is a circus and nothing serious, hence why everyone left in the 2000's. "Hey come see a race where the winner you see in victory lane may not actually be the winner by the time you get home, after giving us hundreds of dollars on tickets, merchandise, and concessions!"

IDGAF about Denny, Kyle, or Chase - but this is bad. Very bad.

Nah, that's not it. Boring arse racing and the stupid chase format that couldn't have been more catered to JJ tracks did that. In combination with guys retiring and after losing Dale of course.

It's a tough spot. How do you not DQ them when they modified something they shouldn't?

I shouldn't of said you were melting.

But if you mess w/the body of a car to get an aero advantage that's always a no-no. And to be fair, it's been a long time since a winner has been DQ'd. It doesn't happen often. And Denny failed pre-race tech a couple of times.

Here is the NASCAR head of Tech Brad Moran talking about what happened. It involved the front fascia.
Explanation of Denny and Rowdy's DQ...

He is trending to win his 2nd title in 3 years.

Find it before the race instead of wasting everyone's time with a "race".

general publics

And no offense, but the general public doesn't know shite. They don't know the difference between a template and a restrictor plate. Let alone a front fascia.

So frick what the general public thinks in this situation.

They don't do pre-race tech anymore. Only during qualifying, and Denny failed twice FWIW.

Big Bill specifically said he didn't want people finding out who won the race in the paper the next day.

Either way, the local Nascar fluffer will support whatever they do while the series goes in the toilet.

eta-Saying that, it couldn't happen to a better team. Holy Roller Gibbs getting two cars DQ'd for cheating is beautiful.

Well well now. Got caught. Everyone stretches rules but the trick is don’t get caught. At least Hamlins daughter got the victory flag and a ride that was cool.

Taking both cars back to HQ for more inspection as well. Remember early year when Toyota was really bad? I bet nascar does too and knowing the new car has tighter tolerences its hard to find so much speed compared to prior car. Nascar said this new gen would not have leeway given like last one. Look at Brad K, if they don’t get more deductions then he got jobbed.

Everything nascar has said is it was “front and aero”. Here’s the interview but since it can be appealed Nascar can only say so much:

@bobpockrass
NASCAR says the issues weren't found in prerace tech because they don't take the wrap off during prerace tech. Taking the wrap off in certain places is part of postrace tech.

I watched practice or qualifying on and at some point someone said that JGR was excited about this weekend because they found something…#Nascar found it too…

——

Extra material on the front fascia that was hidden under the wrap which is why it wasn’t discovered in prerace inspections as they can’t remove the wrap before the race.
