Tremendous bad luck. A couple of DNFs. He likely clinches it in Singapore.

I'm guessing it'll happen in Japan. WDC and WCC should both be decided by Austin

Very possible. I believe next week max needs around 22 points over leclerc to clinch, so it could go on a few more races.I’d love to be there too.

Looks like they went for the Monza strategy of replacing softs about 10 laps too early just because there was a virtual safety and Ferrari thought they HAD to do something, when they could have simply done nothing and it would have been perfectly acceptable.
Doing nothing guaranteed a loss.

They probably figured it was a long shot but it's surely better than doing absolutely nothing when you know you can't win and the pit stop won't hurt you in any way.

The 2022 car was much heralded. Has it lived up to the hype? It certainly bounces alot.

This is the car for the next few years. Traditionally, teams close the gap on the front runners in subsequent years. If this tradition holds true and they can race closely because of the car design it should live up to the hype.

Poor Alex had some issues after his procedure.

Folks speculating online he might miss the Singapore race.

Following surgery, Alex suffered with unexpected post-operative anaesthetic complications which led to respiratory failure, a known but uncommon complication. He was re-intubated and transferred to intensive care for support.

yeah they were screwed no matter what they did. Someone posted practice long runs and max was at least .5 secs a lap faster than anyone in the field. There isn't a strategy that's gonna fix that. He could have started dead last and still won. Whatever RB did to lighten the car has made Max almost unbeatable. He will have to DNF a lot to get Lec back in this

anesthesia can have weird effects. Always a minor concern if you have never gone under before. Glad he's ok.

With all the controversy surrounding late safety cars from Abu Dhabi last year and Monza this past weekend, why can't we have a simple safety car rule along these lines:

If a race is 90% complete and there is a need for a safety car due to an incident, automatically red flag the race and have a standing restart, but don't allow teams to replace tires or do any other kind of service on the car and let them race to the chequered flag in the same setups they were in prior to the red flag stoppage.

Can someone tell me why this wouldn't work? Seems like it would be the most fair way to finish the race IMHO.

I'm new to F1 and racing in general but other than a very late accident on the final lap, it makes zero sense to me ending races on a safety car.

I think for more so than just the fact that it ended on safety car was that I think the Ricciardo thing happened on I believe Lap 47. Like I mentioned, I get it if it happens super late on the last lap.

But when I believe the race was under safety car for that 1 incident for more than 10% of the race, it just doesn't make any sense to me why you wouldn't red flag when you realize it won't be done in time so you can have 1-3 or however many racing laps to complete the race.

I might have missed this, but did all the Twitter check mark folks come out in defense of Max for being booed this weekend?

I remember they all tripped over themselves when the Dutch booed Lewis.

Imo, ending under a SC is just part of the trade we make for safety. Not every race is going to be a barn burner, and that's okay with me. That's life.

It should never end under a safety car for a car that quit working.

Ferrari is about to have Sainz park it where nobody can get to him and they'll parade around for 40 laps.

A) Ferrari isn't that smart, and
B) FIA could always hook up their fancy OBD-II reader to see what happened if they suspected any tomfoolery.
