what is JA’s purpose?
To get on TV.
He's marketing himself in the tradition of Virenque and Voeckler to keep the role of France's media darling.
esp. while wearing the rainbow stripes of the world champion jersey

And in honor of Lance and Luz Ardiden. 2003 was a brutal Tour with extreme heat, Lance lost a time trial when he got badly dehydrated and almost lost the Tour climbing Luz Ardiden when his bars caught a spectator's bag:
Possibly my favorite stage ever. After he went down getting hooked on the musette he had issues clipping back in, then he just did what he do and destroyed the field.

Pog may win three jersey's again. So crazy.
as of my last check... it looks like Pog is 152 points behind Cav for the green jersey
there's enough sprint points still out there right?
go make it a 4-for-4... why the frick not?
or just bring this back and give it to Pog

He looks like he could have kept up that pace for another 100km
There was a point in the last 2k where before he jumped that he looked like me in the first mile of a 15mph recovery ride. He was sitting back on the saddle, didn't even look like he was breathing and just looking around.

I agree. I think they found the bike frame to be cracked once the stage was complete, from the fall apparently (or raw power!).

dont mind me, just here for the bike memes

Ineos seems to be the strongest team out there, but they just lack that elite rider to beat Pog. Geraint’s crash early in the tour didn’t help, Carapaz never had it. Even though Egan won it 2 years ago, I’m really not impressed with a Columbian GC. You need a good mix of strength and climbing, not just a pure climber.

Updated post 2.
It's Pog's world right now, all others are just witnesses. Sepp Kuss puts on one helluva performance and overtakes Powless as the highest ranked Yank (34th)
Will Cavendish be able to do the unthinkable 2 days before Paris? TBD..
Meanwhile some ish with Bahrain Victorious
On a personal note:
I Have done 267 miles since the Tour started. Not a huge number but for someone who's had the favorite bike as wall art for the last year, it's a start. Amazing how quickly you can shed lbs on a bike.
Today I did a ride in the hardest sudden wind and rain I've ever ridden in. After an hour of partly cloudy skies it opened up into a torrential down pour and localized street flooding with strong winds. Still pedaled on and it cleared up and left me with July Georgia humidity and a disgusting bike.
We are almost at the end fellas :-/ But let's keep this going for the Tokyo events, Vuelta etc

Cyclingnews can confirm that Bahrain Victorious were raided by the French police at the Tour de France on Wednesday evening. The team confirmed the news directly to Cyclingnews on Thursday morning.
"Nothing special, we have a visit from the police, they ask for riders training files, they check bus and that’s it," team boss Milan Erzen told Cyclingnews.
"They disturb riders for one hour and at the end, they said thank you. They didn’t tell us what’s the reason of the visit, but we will found this out today through lawyers."

a disgusting bike.
The only thing I hate more than a dirty bike is cleaning a dirty bike. I grew up riding in the open-bearing era so I still wince at taking the hose to a bike. Old habits and all.

Don’t. Want, To. Clean. The. Chain.
The frame is the easy part. It all sucks.
I just want to ride.
If they did an uber-like Team Car with mechanics included….. mannnnnn
Maybe that’s a decent idea. There are so many KOM hunters on strava now I think this could be a thing. Except we own the company and we hire fine individuals to do the dirty work
Trademarked just in case.

I know they have them in London, popped up on a YT video. Guy in his car comes out with his Park tool kit and mobile stand and wrenches for you. That said I love wrenching... on a clean bike.

I don't mind chains, if they are bad I just pull them off and put a clean one on and drop the dirty one in the degreaser and clean several at a time. I do hate cassettes and chain rings while they are still on the bike, I also hate frames because no matter what I do I still find grime hiding in a nook.
Some really interesting insight on The Move about how Pog is shifting the French fans into hating him and causing people to question.
Lance basically said and JB GH agreed he needs to reign in the frick you moments like jumping to win the stage today (yesterday). Lance does say he thinks he is clean but I honestly don't think Lance would question someone today... unless they happen to win 8...
Link skips the "ads" and goes right to the discussion:
The Move on YT
They go on to talk about the Bahrain team raid and how they took their computers and phones. If you like or even can stomach Lance (I know some can't) it is a fascinating listen. Lance has a position that the French hate champions, even their own and does a decent job of on-the-spot support of that.
Lance "it just added up and boom it ends with snipers in the car on Alpe d'Huez".
I know some people hate the ad talk on The Move but I love the podcast (I just skip the first ads usually about 4 minutes). Even more than the insight about the current TdF LA, JB and GH talking about their day illuminates so much stuff I have never heard.

Lance coming out and saying he thinks Pog is clean was pretty surprising to me. Especially because he said winning like that "starts to bring up the question" which I assumed he means doping.
I did like all the discussion about becoming a villain because I think it's accurate. The tide is already turning on Pog, at least in France. And who better to hear it from than Lance?

Absolutely love it as well. Did you catch the 7 part series where LA, GH and Johan break down 7 different stages from Lance's career and talk about them. Fascinating to hear it from their perspective.

My opinion is he is being diplomatic along with knowing he can't or shouldn't be questioning anyone since he is on a long-term redemption tour in a sense. I think in his heart of hearts he has a Pete Rose mentality in that he thinks he will someday get all those strike-throughs on Wiki removed. He either will or he will do his podcast like Rose sits and does autographs down the street from Cooperstown.
Despite Lance never being a granular numbers guy he is likely still as good as anyone and better than most at spotting that extra 10% that PEDs give a top-level cyclist. I am also sure he can interpret a power file in a more relevant way than we mere mortals can. 6.5w/KG over extended periods and it just blows my mind, he actually knows what it actually feels like to produce those efforts and what it takes to fuel a body to get it there.
I am pretty blase' about accusing pro cyclists of doping simply because it isn't that big a deal for me. I feel differently about amateur sports but I could care less what adult professional athletes put in their bodies. I might be a POS but that is just how I feel. I defy anyone to argue cycling was more exciting during the crackdown years post USADA getting their scalps. Anyone that watched stage 17 of the 2006 TdF was on the edge of their seats the same way with last years stage 20 TT.

Was reading the translated version of Le Monde today and ran across this, an interview with Christophe Bassons which older guys or historians know abandoned the 99 Tour because he was getting shite on by the peleton for being an outspoken anti-doper who wrote an article in Le Parisien saying the peloton was still doping after the 98 Festina affair. He was on Festina and everyone on that team maintained he was the only rider on the team that was clean. Despite my lack of feelings about doping I have a lot of respect for Bassons, hell Lance literally assaulted him DURING one of the stages in 99 when the riders decided to ride slow in protest of all the doping talk and he just road away from the field.
It is only part of the article but I am not subscribing to a newspaper I only read a few times each July.
quote:
How do you see this Tour de France 2021, while the performances of some riders in the first weeks, in particular those of the yellow jersey Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates), raise questions?
Seen from the outside, the domination of Pogacar, especially during the climb of the col de la Colombière [ during the 8 th stage between Oyonnax and Le Grand-Bornand, on July 3 ] , is surprising. Every year, we see a team or a rider who stands out. It is not something new. Some are also punctually impressive, like Wout van Aert for example [ the Belgian rider of the Jumbo-Visma won during the 11 th stage and his double ascent of Mont Ventoux ] . But they have incredible qualities and run understandable races ...
What remains the most surprising for me are the speeds. We can say that Pogacar is in front, that he is breaking power records, etc., it does not change the fact that, behind, the entire peloton rolls very quickly.
How to explain it?
There is a huge medicalization of the peloton, which makes it possible to ride at such a speed. This provides good recovery, which allows you to take the start every day at almost 100%, but also to make the body work at 110% -120%… We are able to do all this without going into doping.
However, there are things that can surprise: the powers, the supervision of certain runners, the fact of accumulating prowess day by day or the fact of being multitrain ... It is sure that it puts in doubt , but can we say that it is due to doping? Technological help?
It is only part of the article but I am not subscribing to a newspaper I only read a few times each July.

Loving the ‘Inside the Tour’ vignettes they do. The pov bike cams and the scenes of them goofing off on camera while in the peloton are just awesome

Looks like the Peloton is letting them go up the road. So Cav will try for the record on Sunday, unless he is crazy good in the time trial which I doubt.
Posted on 7/16/21 at 9:33 am to Obtuse1
I just assume they are all doping and that goes for all athletes, especially those in the big three American sports.

Damn, Mohoric said the police tore their rooms apart on the search. Went through phone messages, personal photos, training data, everything.
