I just saw in Phil's presser he said he thought Brooks was trying to slow play him on the 18th green.

That's not a throwaway line. Phil was probably pissed about that.

no, he acknowledged the crowd was the reason

and we all know what Brooks said about that

he said the s word twice and even suggested people intentionally tried to wreck his knee

I had this sense all weekend.

Maybe he didn't want Phil to tie him with 6 majors.

I don't know,

he seemed nervous as did Nance...we were all nervous wrecks so much wanting Phil to bring this one home...

for a lot of reasons...

the age factor as one,

but also all those 2nd place finishes at the US open, we've seen trainwrecks with Phil

today, he finished it! It was glorious

it also helped Brooks couldn't putt all weekend

Very bitchy comments by Brooks. Dropping shitbombs in the press conference and whining about knee.

If you’re too hurt to play, then don’t play

Could have been gracious to an elder and used this as a gutsy performance, but...

You must be 22, it he wasn’t for Brooke dethroning him today Speith would be the biggest bitch on tour with Rory running a close second.

Brooke did put some distance between herself and second today though. Hope her knee is better soon so she can get back to ballet practice

No, I'll be 40 a week from Friday.

I like both of those guys. I've never liked Koepka. Something about him just rubbed me wrong. And he proved me right.

I've never had that feeling w/those 2.

Is it just me or does Nick Faldo subliminally speak/root against Phil?

It's possible, apparently when Brooks was a kid Phil turned him down for an autograph or something at Augusta. Considering how Brooks seems to always have a reason to have a chip on his shoulder I bet losing to Phil was tough for him.

Damn for real? I always liked him, seemed like a cool baw, and was always hanging with the barstool guys.

But this now may have changed my mind on him :(

Roided up frickin goon. Couldn't even keep up with a 50 year old turkey neck like Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson out drove Koepka on a few holes. Dude might be 50, but the youngins don't really have any advantages on him as far as hitting any of the shots needed to win. I wouldn't be surprised if Mickelson wins another major. He hasn't had any major injuries and his swing still looks good.

Had Mickelson played poorly and lost, how strange that Koepka would have had the same number of majors? Plus 80 wins for one and under 10 for the other. Life isn’t fair but the way this ended ‘seemed’ right.

I think it's better they run it now than when nobody cares in August. It's definitely the 4th of the majors, though.

It's better for the gallery and the golfers that they are not outdoors for six hours in August at Southern Hills or Medinah but I don't know that it is better for the tournament itself. Being the last major of the year used to be its identity. You got jacked up to watch it because you knew afterwards you would have to wait until next April to get a chance to see another tournament of similar stature, especially in the non-Ryder Cup years. Plus, unless there are Olympics going on there really aren't any other big sporting events in August. Now not only is it stuffed in a small window between the Masters and the U.S. Open, it is also stuffed into the same month as the Kentucky Derby, Indy 500, the French Open, and the start of NHL and NBA playoffs.

That was a great course and the playing conditions were fair and tough. Something the US Open could learn from. Usually, the Open has the greens so dried out and pressed that even great shots at the flag bounce off the greens like a superball.

The PGA gets it right by having their courses punitive enough if you miss the fairways and yet rewarded players for making great shots around the greens. The ocean breeze took care of the rest.

That's what makes a great major, any year. Hard but fair to all.
