The manufacturers are sticking together on pits and drafting. I’m sure the boys in the suites are invested in a brand win, but I wonder if the average fan cares much any more which brand wins.
Most fans follow a driver (who is apt to switch manufacturers during his career) rather than GM, Ford, or Toyota. If your favorite driver gets beat at the line, you probably won’t take any comfort in the fact that a driver from the same manufacturer beat him.
