NASCAR blew this.

They had a chance to be the only thing on tv. They could have easily ran these races with no fans

Agreed.

Everything was in place in Atlanta already.

Could have ran the doubleheader tomorrow as scheduled with the pick of any time slot for Sunday.

Or do like they originally planned this morning due to chance of rain on Sunday.

Run Trucks tonight.

Xfinity and Cup on Saturday.

Yeah, but there are more crew members, event staff, officials, etc. there than any other sport has. There still would have been hundreds of people within a relatively small area.

I agree. Out of all sports Nascar would be the easiest to pull off. They missed out and now two races will be rescheduled during football season if at all.

When you add up all of the personnel from each team, all of the officials and NASCAR staff, all of the track staff (those still needed even without fans), all of the safety workers, and the limited amount of media, there Still would have been hundreds, if not over a thousand, people in the infield (particularly in the garage area) even without the fans. That’s more personnel than two basketball teams or two football teams would have.

100% agree

As a sport that lost some following, this could have been a huge chance to gain new fans.

I have a feeling NASCAR got pressure from somewhere. I’m not talking about a conspiracy here. Might have even been drivers.

Other than the driver's meeting, and other similar, they are not packed in together in large groups.

Could easily have those meetings outdoors.

Big fail on Nascar's part.

Nascar announces it’ll return May 3rd for the Martinsville race. They still plan to run all 36 races this year.

I’m not a nascar fan, but I’ve recently started playing the game on Xbox and have a question:

In nascar, what are the ‘unwritten rules’ about bumping and rear ending and shite like that? When is it acceptable to bump guys and push them?

I read where they may experiment with the schedule and run some weeknight races. They’ve been talking about it for awhile. I think it could be successfully done in the right market. I can also see them racing twice at a track during the tracks summer/fall weekend. Pocono already had that scheduled for this year. The one off tracks like Atlanta are gonna take some planning. Maybe do Talladega and Atlanta close together to help with travel even though the cars are totally different.

This is correct. It takes a circus to pull off a NASCAR race.

What do you think a garage looks like when they're all jammed together working on the cars? They can't spread those out because they need the electricity to work on them. When they're on pit road, it's a constant back and forth to get the tires from the Goodyear reps - constant back and forth and interaction. That back and forth has them walking right by other people. Nascar officials all need the monitors to call the race, they all have to be in the same room to converse. Ever see the monitors in front of Gordon and Joy in the media booth? They have those for the MRN crew as well - they can't spread all of that out in seperate rooms, they've got their crew to spot for them etc. It's a lot of interaction going on and that's how the virus spreads like wildfire.

ETA - not to mention all of the gear that would have to be wiped down after every use. The entire car, tools, pitboxes, truck, everything. That cost alone combined with 0 revenue from attendance would sink the small teams.
