As I understand it, he's a very good test and development driver, something that a young team needs.

At least he's finally happy with the brakes now that they've switched suppliers.

Did you guys see that McLaren picked up a sponsor for their halo? It's a company that makes flip flops.

How tough do these devices make it for the driver to exit the car? There used to be a rule that the driver had to be able to extricate himself from the car (alone) in three seconds or something like that

That rule is still in effect but you're right that it's an issue. The halo is really strong and you could use it to hoist yourself up out of the seat. But there are a bunch of fiddly aero bits on it that you don't want to break. So yeah it does make getting out of the car more difficult. Some of the drivers have complained about that.

While I know its for safety I'm not the only one who hates the halo right?

Here’s where the politics and BS of the FIA come into play: the time mandated to exit the car (which has been in the 3-5 second range for a long time) yet that big safety mandated rule, was magically increased to 10-15 seconds this year.

So the whole “halo adds safety” jargon is a bit hypocritical

Because that fire will wait patiently, under the new rules.

No more Hobbs and Matchett bickering and Duffy mediating, will miss the American perspective with Skysports feed.
Hoping Haas has matured and can evolve through the season instead of starting strong and failing to develop through the season. FP1 and 2 should show where Renault and Honda start the season on power

Hobbs has been around so long, he was Donahue's teammate at Penske for a time. Always liked him.

I just hope for Alonso's sake Renault gives him something to work with. If not I hope he makes the switch full-time to Indy.

Maybe the halo has a built in sprinkler that detects Fire & squirts the driver with water?

What’s the purpose of the halo? Deflecting rogue tires or what?

On F1 cars they are.

I think it's a question of picking your poison. While fire will always be a hazard, incidents involving deaths from head trauma in open-wheel racing seem to be on the rise with Justin Wilson, Jules Bianchi, and Maria de Villota all losing their lives in incidents where the halo might have saved them. Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen and James Hinchcliffe have also had very close calls with the open cockpits.

Zac Brown is a genius.

While everyone else is losing sponsors, he's got a team that finished 9th (second to last) grabbing companies and getting headlines.

How are the SkySports commentators? Since ESPN is carrying their coverage.

I think it's debatable whether the halo would have helped in any of those incidents. It seems like this is just a feelgood measure so that they can say they're trying to do something about safety.

I'm hoping Haas gets a sponsorship from Victoria's Secret.
