Last night wasn't a good one as all three teams in action were on the road and took a loss.

ULM lost at Michigan State 59-80. The Warhawks got big scoring efforts from JD Williams and Michael Ertel who scored 25 and 20 points respectively. ULM drops to 2-2 on the season.

UNO made it close a few times in the second half before ultimately losing at UAB 68-75. Ezekiel Charles led the way for the Privateers with a game high 20 points. The Privateers also got good efforts from Scott Plaisance who had 12 points & 8 rebounds and Gerrale Gates who had 11 points & 9 rebounds in the loss. UNO is 2-2 this year.

Grambling got back in the game in the second half but ended up losing at Wyoming 78-86. The Tigers had a pretty balanced attack as four players were in double figure scoring including Dallas Polk-Hillard with 14 and Devante Jackson with 12 in the loss. Grambling falls to 1-1 this year.

There are no state schools in action tonight. Well not on the hardwood at least.

Unfortunately I think seeing Southern make a run at the tourney every few years is over. Not a fan of the new HC at all. Hope I'm wrong.

Tulane [Last Season: 14-17 (5-13) 10th], Preseason Media Day Projection 10th in AAC
Mike Dunleavy enters his third year at Tulane hoping to continue the improvement we saw from year one to year two. The Wave didn’t have a great season a year ago, but there was definite improvement from the 2016-17 season. Tulane suffered big losses this offseason losing their two leading scorers from a year ago including 2018 AAC 2nd Team All-Conference G Melvin Frazier who was selected in the NBA Draft. Tulane will look for players to step up and fill those roles this season, particularly Senior guard Jordan Cornish, Junior forward Samir Sehic & Junior guard Ray Ona Embo. We’ll see how Coach Dunleavy and the Wave are able to retool for this season and see if Tulane can exceed preseason expectations.

Dunleavy is doing some serious work on the recruiting trail. Kevin Zhang was a legit top 70 recruit. Tulane beat out UCLA, Cal, Florida, Wichita State, BYU, Kansas State, plus a litany of other schools. The only thing they are missing is depth because they are effectively playing a 7 man rotation but the starters that Dunleavy has are good but they are one above average player down from being a top 30 team right now. Ray Ona Embo once he is healed up should be that missing wheel they are missing because he is a likely FA pick in the NBA draft.

He is doing a good job of developing his players which is something that Tulane hasn't done in basketball since the 80s. Moses Wood and Conner Crabtree the other two freshman need more strength and conditioning work but they will be impact players as this season progresses on for them.

This is after Dunleavy lost two starters to the NBA from last season.

Tulane pulled out a win over South Dakota State 84-80. The Wave were actually trailing with 30 seconds left and scored the last 6 points to get the win. It was a balanced scoring effort led by Caleb Daniels who had a team high 24 points. Shakwon Barrett had 19, Samir Sehic had 17 and Jordan Cornish scored 14 in the win. Tulane improves to 2-1 this season and will take on UC-Irvine in the next round of the Gulf Coast Showcase tomorrow at 4pm.

Teams in action yesterday went 2-1.

ULL cruised past Colorado State winning 91-73. JaKeenan Gant and Malik Marquetti led the Cajuns with 19 and 16 points respectively. Justin Miller (13), Jeremy Hayes (11) and Trajan Wesley (10) all reached double figures in the win. The Cajuns are now 2-2 this year and advance to the next round of the Gulf Coast Showcase where they will face Toledo at 6:30pm today.

Northwestern State lost at Houston 55-82. It was a rough outing that saw no Demon player reach double figure scoring. John Norvel led the team with 8 points in the loss. Northwestern State falls to 1-4 this season.

And Tulane won yesterday (recapped in the post above).

Below is the schedule for today. 7 teams are in action.

Of note, if Tulane and the Cajuns can both get a win today, we could see an all Louisiana championship game in the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Tuesday, November 20th
Tulane vs UC-Irvine – 4pm (Gulf Coast Showcase, Estero, FL)
Louisiana Tech vs Tougaloo College – 6:30pm
ULL vs Toledo – 6:30pm (Gulf Coast Showcase, Estero, FL)
Southeastern @ Mississippi Valley State – 7pm
McNeese vs University of Mobile – 6:30pm
Nicholls @ Ole Miss – 6pm (SECN)
Grambling vs Champion Christian College – 7:30pm

ETA: I think I'm going to start updating the OP with Top 50 statistics and RPIs next week. Seems a little too soon to put that information in there right now.

I like Marlin, but might be time for some new blood in the basketball program.

Just so much inconsistency. We also live and die by the 3. If we can't get those to fall, we have trouble doing anything else

The defense was bad yesterday hendo. Gave up over 50% from the floor and over 40% from 3.

A lot of that comes from missed shots. It's easier to play defense after a make than in transition.

As far as Marlin, Maggard has shown that he'll make the tough decision if needed. I think it would take a couple of lackluster seasons in a row though
