If Getzlaf starts shooting Nashville may be in trouble

That's how you know he's feeling it

He's had better nights, for sure. Ducks have been on point with their shots too.

I'd be worried about Kesler being in Johansen's head if Johansen didn't have a goal and an assist last night along with being on-ice for all 3 Preds goals. He's got 1G and 3A in two games where the Ducks get last change. With all the cheap shite happening on the ice (and, yes, the Preds did start retaliating), the refs better start calling penalties for the cheap shots. Subban got slashed hard in center ice on the leg with a linesman looking right at him with no call. Kesler elbowed Johansen in the head from the blindside. Forsberg caught Silfverberg in the groin with his stick blade.

The worst part is how NBC glorifies crap like that as playing hard and gritty. frick that. Dirty play is dirty. They called out Forsberg, and his was the one where the player has the most plausible deniability, even if we all can be pretty damn sure it was intentional. They highlighted Kesler's elbow as part of his attempts to get into Johansen's head and put him off his game. If that's their code-word for "headhunting with intent to concuss," they're right. It's pathetic. The refs, NHL, and DoPS have turned a blind eye to dirty play, so now the goons are upping the ante and normally clean players are having to get dirty to defend themselves or get some measure of justice.

The Ducks strategy has always been to do as much dirty crap as possible and then hope that playoff officiating takes its course and they don't call it.

But the problem isn't NBC, it's the league itself. Until they actually want to change, they won't. The people in the game, at its heart, worships toughness over skill. And if you think NBC promotes violence, check out our neighbors to the north.

The Ducks strategy is spot-on, and it's pathetic that the league allows it. Everyone in the hockey world knows the Ducks are going to keep pushing the line on dirty play until the refs or DoPS stops them. I get tired of the NFL's line about "integrity of the game," but at some point, the powers that be need to make a team play within the rules.

I can't say that I've ever seen a Canadian hockey broadcast, but I'll take your word for it. The league may be the reason so much dirty play happens, but NBC is still the one glorifying it. I know they can't go too far with questioning why players aren't fined or suspended because they have to protect the NHL to some extent. You still don't have to show cheap shots over and over while praising the offending player.

We got 1 so all in all it was a successful weekend. Rinne was due for a letdown at some point so hopefully it's out of the way now and he can bounce back tomorrow night.

frick Ryan Kesler. Dude is such a bitch.

NY Rangers Eulogy

As a Rangers fan, this post is spot-on. Some key gems:
quote:

Ryan McDonagh is steady enough, sure. But behind him patrols a gallery of graduates from the University of Has-Beens led by Dan Girardi and Marc Staal. These guys weren’t even that good in their primes. They’re the poster boys of the flawed old-school approach, positively skewered by analytics since analytics were invented by Fenwick Q. Analytic in 1903, and for whom they are named. The Rangers defense is a sieve. Perfectly porous. Girardi and Staal are given free rein to float around in the defensive zone, ponderously slow, wonderfully clueless, and seemingly totally unaware that their opponents also have a goal at the other end of the rink.

Or this:

quote:

Is there a coach more confident in his terrible decisions? We can call him Mike Therrien Lite. While the bulk of his bad decisions through this year’s postseason rested on his insistence of playing bad defensemen over good ones, his forward deployment was spotty too. Alain Vigneault might be the only coach in the NHL who thinks Jesper Fast is good, and I’m fairly certain he’s banking that entirely on his last name. “His name is literally Fast. It can’t miss!”

I fricking hate AV.

Stream on www.cbcsports.ca. Change your location to Canada (might have to use VPN). Now you never have to be stuck watching NBCSN anymore. Now bow down to Ron McLean and Don Cherry like the rest of us. You're welcome.
