IIRC, the Pens owed Lemioux so much money on his contracts that he wasn't paid they literally signed the team over to him. At least that was the joke at the time.
That was indeed the case. Howard Baldwin used the team as his personal piggy bank (as a sole proprietor he had the right to do it, it was just dumb). His mismanagement bankrupted the team. The NHL had to draw up three schedules - one with the Pittsburgh Penguins, one with the Portland Penguins, and one with no Penguins - while they waited for the case to be resolved.
Lemieux was the team's largest creditor because of deferred salary. So instead of money, he got the team. The other creditors were happy to go along because that was the best chance to save their own investments.

Great game.
I like both teams and I'm torn this series. In the end, I gotta hope Pekka gets a "Cup" after his journey.

Yeah I don't ever remember Portland OR being part of it. But who knows

Portland Penguins?
Yep. There was an anonymous buyer who wanted to grab the team in bankruptcy court and move it to Portland. Presumably one of the Microshaft guys.

What's up with the empty seats
You could get tickets to Game 1 for $69.
That area doesn't give a frick about the Ducks.

More reasons to hate LA. It's pathetic how many tickets are left through Ticketmaster for Sunday.

Swiss just beat Canada in the Worlds
First time in 17 games Team Canada has lost. Craziest thing is Team Canada is 3-3 vs The Swiss since 2010, before that they were 22-0-3.

I like it because any time they say a hockey game is going to start at 7, it never really starts until like 7:20.
So we're just cutting out all the pre-game that I don't really care about.

Is it just me or did the golf announcer just say Ovechkin is teeing off on the 16th hole?

Last putt goes in and we're about to get the puck drop.
That quick transition got me hard
