Etixx was roasted after spending the last 50k+ going all out to hold off the second echelon. Martin, Uran, Stybar, and especially Kwiatkowski were toast after their efforts, and Renshaw just didn't have enough left to bring Cav closer. Greipel and Cancellara were well rested for the finale, and Etixx just wasn't.

Etixx are the worst tactical team in the world. They completely fricked up multiple classics this year too. Cav not sprint to the line is a mess up of monumental proportions plus they started their leadout way too far out.

I kinda get Etixx problem today. All worked some but it was TM mostly. Uran with GC ambitions not to mention MK eyeing tomorrow's stage possibly and ZS looking at stage 4 may have played in somewhat. I don't know for sure but it may have been a factor. Martin may have been the least selfish of the group today along with MR.

The finish was a slipup, but getting 6 men in a 24 man echelon is no small feat. Plus its only because they have set such high expectations in the past that you expect them to win so often. Sure Omloop was a terrible moment for the team (three Etixx riders in the final 4 and Stannard takes the win), but sometimes you just have bad luck.

Oftentimes Etixx has to carry the responsibility of chasing or holding off the peloton on their own in the classics because they have won so many in the past. This responsibility leaves them vulnerable to defeats by fresher teams and riders. It is hard for me to call the most prolific team in the world as far as wins go the worst tactical team.

Just thinking this team (outside of MR) may not have Cav's interest as a priority and maybe fractured or more GC driven. Thinking out loud mostly!

He said in his post-race interview he has never raced the climb. It is certainly a leg breaker but he should have the power to hang on, after all the serious climb only lasts 300 meters or so.

The real threat is Sagan, if he can get into position he has shown he has great form at the moment

Steephilltv has feeds but with the sketchy banners in the links, I would not view at work. I link a lot of races there and haven't had a issue...some have though. Ad blocker and good virus protection is a must. You could always pay the 14 dollars or so and watch it on nbc's site. That's safe...

What happened to Canchelara?

I was watching they're on a flat road, switch channel come back to watch end, and he's off the back with Ligget in death mode.

He's been struggling since the crash, he won't be keeping that jersey today I don't think

I think Sky gives up the yellow tomorrow. I'm not sure Froome or Sky want to defend over the cobbles.

Tony Martin has got to be snake bitten, 2 days in a row now he's lost yellow by less than 3 seconds.

He may ask the Luftwaffe to strike London again. Both days have been a result of the English Empire ripping it away.

My TJVG to beat Thibaut Pinot in the GC is shaping up nicely...he should have 4+ minutes comes the end of the TTT

Arguably should have used his team more on stage 2...of even two BMC riders hit the front consistently they would have added at least an extra 30 seconds but also a potentially smart move recognising that his team isn't that off Sky Saxo etc so didn't want to burn them out early

Great opening three days so far and can't wait for tomorrow

Fractured two vertebrae, same injury as he had early in the classics but with different vertebrae. Really sad for him and the team. Fought back to tremendous form only to go back to square one.
May be the last time we see Fabian in the Tour as well, what a shame

Sky won't be interested in keeping the jersey through stage 8, but there are not many guys within reason to take it. It's pretty much Sagan who can cobble and win time bonuses, but Tinkoff has little help for him so it will be a solo effort.

Froome will not cobble well, but will be protected and try to hang near the front for a while.

Sagan at :31, GVA at :28, and Gallopin at :26 are all threats if the race does split up. Also tough to count out Tony Martin who has plenty of muscle for the cobbles and is only 1 second down. I would be surprised if the race splits up too much, but Froome may not hold on to the jersey.
