I don't think there's any way possible for LA to land Butler this offseason. They have to offer him, at minimum, a 2 year contract and Chicago is going to match whatever is on the table. There's rumors that Butler hates Chi so much that he will sign a 1 year qualifying offer and leave $80 million + on the table this offseason so he can be a UFA next year but I would have to see that to believe it.
So there's like a 0.0000001% that the Lakers can land Butler anytime soon

Yeah, I understand that part. I just figure they will at least throw something out there. Even if just for the "hey, we want you in LA. If not now, then hopefully in a year or two."

True but with this new CBA it's almost impossible to build entirely through Free agency. Randle, Clarkson plus picks would be an insane steal for Boogie.
Honestly, he's probably worth the original offer that Vlade made but the Lakers are not in a position to trade every single young asset they have right now imo.
We would have Cousins, Kobe, maybe LMA and then 9 other players making league minimum.

Was a trade ever fully on the table though? It's going to come down to if Vlade and Vivek stand their ground RE: Cousins, and if so, then you almost have to fire Karl. The problem there though is it's going to be kind of hard to find a coach at this point. Thibs isn't going back on his word on not coaching to take the reigns of the Kings

Yep. It just gives the original team a chance to keep a player they may originally wouldn't be able to hold onto

I'm not sure what the Lakers were offering but it came out that Vlade was asking for Russell, Randle, Clarkson, Tarik Black and picks.
From everything I've read, Vivek is not against trading Cousins but Vlade is the major obstacle.

He's not against it but I think he's way more on the side of keeping him, while Vlade doesn't want to do it period.
I think the Kings could be a fun team to watch if they stand pat. Would easily be a playoff squad in the East

This isn't new information. Your a bulls fan you should know this.
Right around when the playoffs started there were rumors butler didn't like the fact that it was still considered D Rose team or some shite and he wanted to be the "go to" guy. Idk if it's all true buts it definitely not new information.
If I was the Bulls I would definitely try to keep him and make it his team. Got a new coach and a new star on the rise. D rose ain't going anywhere but down. Jimmy is on the up. He's their future

Actually, it was Rose who was rumored to turn into a sour puss with the Game 6 loss to Cleveland. Butler even said after the playoffs he wanted to be a Bull for life.
So yes, this bit about him hating being in Chicago is new to me.

Without question. Even if Rose is better right now (which is debatable), the Bulls absolutely cannot take a chance on losing Butler with Rose's injury history.
