I would try to convince him to stay but if he has his mind made up, you have to try to sign and trade him. Unhappy players make for a bad locker room

OK, big news. Luol Deng has opted in, according to agent Herb Rudoy.

Knicks are frontrunners for two free agents -- Greg Monroe and Arron Afflalo, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Those are realistic targets.

How serious is the Lakers interest in Monroe and vise versa?

given I haven't heard anything about him being that miserable in Chicago until today.

It was a Lakers reporter who broke this news, unless you count that dumbass Chicago report Bernstein who spews anything to prop his name.

Couldn't the Lakers just try a sign and trade with the Bulls? Let the Bulls sign him to a one year deal with a player option and let him do basically what Lebron is doing now?

What would the Bulls care if they are getting something in return?

Because someone who is desperate to win now will drive the price up

You mean what Chicago would want back in a trade?

What Butler would want next offseason?

What another team could offer this season?

He can take the QO, which is essentially a one year deal, or he can get paid a lot more money on a 3-5 year deal. He can't do what Lebron is doing at this point, for the most part.

They could try, but the Bulls would have to want to. Which they won't.

As someone has already alluded to, a bad attitude in a locker room because a player doesn't want to be there is not a good problem to have.

basically this. if jimmy signs the QO, then Chicago is going to deal him. that means that some team will be desperate enough to acquire a rental at the deadline to make a championship run. then jimmy enters free agency. if he signs that QO, I don't want the lakers to make a trade for him because no matter what, he is entering free agency next year

I would imagine he is a bit down the list of big men targets for the Lakers behind

Cousins (trade)
LMA
Jordan
Love

With Love basically out of it, Aldridge is the #1 target no?

Do you still try to get DeAndre, and is that really something you would be excited about?

I'm not super sold on DeAndre being worth a ton of money...

I would fricking love to land Deandre but it seems like he's headed to Dallas. I've always been a huge fan of Aldridge but I just don't know if signing a 30 year old power forward is the best move LA can make

Every year people make this argument and every year the Restricted player gets matched regardless of what they want. See: Eric Gordon.

Teams don't let assets go just to be nice. If he's being a dick, they'll trade him next offseason. Otherwise, they'll try to convince him to stay long term.
