#1 Loyola (MD) vs. #4 Notre Dame

#3 Duke vs. Maryland

Loyola is bring a tremenous win streak & a well rounded team effort to Foxborough. I really enjoy watching their d-poles execute.
Notre Dame has 1 of the best coaching staffs in the country. Gerry Byrne will be a very successful head coach one day when his time comes.
Duke is Duke is Duke. 6th straight appearance in the long wake after the crushing news story/scandal. I cannot say enough for the respect & admiration I have for Coach Danowski. The Blue Devils have a terrific transition game & run fast breaks better than almost anyone in the last 10 years.
Maryland is all about surprise & Turtle Power. Bernhardt is opening the door for lacrosse players from the South.

Nice to see some new blood (Loyola) in the Final 4. It's good for the growth of the game. The tournament has been pretty enjoyable, aside from a couple of blowouts.

I know that 90% of the MSB won't/don't care about the game of lacrosse. So if you fall in there, don't post.

Whether you know it or not, the game is growing in the south (noted by another recent thread). Additionally, LSU has fielded a club team since 1973-so at the very least, support them in true LSU spirit! Tulane & La Tech field teams when they can. ULL has built a quality program (mostly due to STM kids staying in 337 & continuing to play after their successes under Coach Mike Guidroz)in the last 2 seasons. Centenary is going D3 this coming academic-athletic year.

You might want to get on board seeing as there are literally 1000s of LA + Southern US athletes who just aren't built to go on to play D1/D2/D3 football or baseball but some of those same guys have the ability to go D1/D2/D3 in lacrosse & be successful. Can you imagine what would happen to the lacrosse world if all those kids who never see the field in football, due to height/weight/inches, but take the lacrosse field with their athletic abilities!?!?

Also, not to exclude the Womens game-but UF is heading to the Final 4 in only their 3rd year of Varsity D1 participation. So, don't tell me that lacrosse can't succeed in the south, let alone the SEC. The door has been opened.

haha! touché Dr.
I played when I was in school. Coaching ever since.

For those that need a little more to get "impressed" by lacrosse. Here's a Sports Science on the new face of lacrosse, Paul Rabil, & his shooting ability:

Duke's better than Maryland, but so was Hopkins. They get up for the big game, and in typical Maryland fashion, choke in the title game:

Notre Dame over Maryland.

Duke vs Notre Dame rematch. Here's why:

Loyola is good. Damn good actually. But they're not ready to play on this big of a stage. Notre Dame does it year in and out, and Coach Corrigan and Byrne's Defense is simply better than Loyola's offense. I got ND by 2.

Maryland beat Duke at the beginning of the season, but then lost to them in the ACC championship. They also lost to UVA and UNC. Maryland was honestly my "bottom of the ACC" this year, and I think Danowski has their number.

Championship game? Man, I have no idea. I want to say this is Notre Dames year. Their defense is so stout, but I said that in 2010, and CJ Constabile got that OT goal..

As an aside, always have obsessed about lacrosse, always will. Baton Rouge has a team for old(er) folks, and we have people who have never played before, too, so if anyone ever wants to give it a shot, check out BatonRougeLacrosseClub.com

I'm OK with that, too.

In 2010, ND opened the season with a win over Duke and lost to them in the title game. In 2011, ND opened the season with a win over Duke and lost to them in the quarterfinals.

ND opened the season with a win over Duke this year.

You bring up very valid points. I'm just not so sure Duke can get it done this year. They haven't "convinced" me.

Also, losing the ACC is not a detriment. Duke finished last in the ACC the year they won the title. UVA finished behind Maryland last year, and then won the national title. Maryland finished last this season after winning the ACC last year...

I just don't think Maryland gets 2 wins this weekend.
Duke has the deepest roster/ability to punch through a ND/Loyola winner as that game will be an emotional score fest.

I don't typically follow college lacrosse during the season, but I love watching the championship game on Memorial Day every year. A very interesting sport. Fast-paced and fairly high scoring.

Duke is the deepest team, but they only have one real superstar, Costabile. Some of their other guys could be great (Wolf in particular), but this isn't their time yet. The 2010 championship team had three of the best players in the world (not college, the world), but they also started some scrubs and younger versions of upperclassmen starters (Rotanz, Turri, Wigrizer) this year. They are more balanced than the 2010 team but certainly lacking in star power.

Also, Wigrizer is one of the worst goalies for a top program. If Duke had Maryland or ND's goalie, I don't think it would even be a question. However, I think everyone has basically an equal shot to win it.

It helps that ND and Maryland don't run and gun. Duke always wins those games. I think they are 23-2 against UNC in the past 8 seasons

I haven't followed Duke much this year, but Wigrizer was a beast in the opener against ND. Definitely seemed much improved from previous years. Might have been a one-time thing, though.

He's had three or four good games all year. Notre Dame, UVA, the first Syracuse game, and I guess Colgate this past weekend.

Before last weekend he was at a 51 percent save percentage. Now 53%.

Kemp is at 64%. Fiorito is at 60, although Amato from MD is actually lower than I expected at only 54 %.

Yeah, he's had a rough year, but Niko's been a beast in the playoffs, though, just like last year.

Kemp is on a whole different level from everyone else.

Amato runs hot and cold. He had a miserable stretch midseason when the Terps looked like they were gonna miss the postseason.

When he's on though, there isn't a goalie I'd rather have.
