One of my favorite championship games. Old school, rockem-sockem game with tons of talent on both sides. RIP Will Smith. As loaded as Miami was, I think Kellen Winslow, Jr stood out the most, and he turned out to be a real scumbag so I guess it's good that he lost. Tressel badly outcoached Coker as well imo

No doubt about that. Miami was the much better team talent wise on the field. Ohio State had the better coaching and they also caught the good fortune that night.

Watching it as well. Good game but the U got screwed.

They were the Luckeyes that year, they caught a lot of breaks.

Dorsey was a great college QB, but imo he's what keeps 2001 Miami from being considered GOAT, just not enough arm strength. He was a tough sucker though, OSU beat the frick out of him that game and Cane's did same to Krenzel

Meh, if it wasn’t for bad officiating OSU would have won in regulation.

OsU got boned.

Watch the final drive of regulation. A hold on Gamble and a completed pass ruled incomplete would have salted the game.

Does with the int.

Funny people saying there was such a talent gap but it was Ohio State and not Miami that set the record for most players drafted the next year.

But look at the success the Miami guys had and compare that to the success Ohio st guys had

Iirc the only Miami starter who didn’t get drafted died in a car wreck before the draft

At the time I think everyone assumed OSU was badly out-talented. OSU was a very deep team with a ton of guys who got drafted.

37/43 starters were drafted (Gamble played both ways for OSU). I do wonder if that's a record

Nick Mangold was a freshman center for Ohio State. All pro for many years. You’re shortchanging the success the Ohio State guys had. That guy Will Smith (rip) was a pretty solid pro as well
