Was talking with some friends about Frank Thomas in 1994...there were 50 games left when the season ended prematurely. A third of the season got me thinking about all the what if of the season that we didn't get to see play out. I'm going to pretend Jeff Bagwell didn't break his wrist a couple days before the strike began but so many potentially historic moments were occurring

Tony Gwynn was hitting .394
Frank Thomas had an OPS of 1.217
Matt Williams had 43 Home Runs
Bagwell had 116 RBIs (and 39 HRs and hitting .368 and 1.201 OPS)
Greg Maddux had an ERA of 1.56
Montreal Expos were 74-40

Rangers were leading the AL West with a record of 52-62. Angels were 21 games under .500 but only 5.5 games out of first.

All of the offensive numbers you posted above this make Maddux's season seem impossible.

Ben McDonald had 14 wins with a projected 12 starts left in the season.

Damn. On that note, just checked to see if Ripken would have broken the streak record that year, but he still had 122 games left to eclipse Gehrig.

Pretty sure Bagwell broke his arm or something right before it started

The Braves were going to come back and catch the Expos. Everyone knows it but it's more romantic to imagine that the Expos were destined for a WS title.

Still will, but he'd have had a great shot at the auto bid 500 HR club.

between the 50 games at end of 1994 and the 20 or so at beginning of 1995, he's all but guaranteed to have hit the 7 more he needs to get to 500.
Likely hits closer to double that and is sitting at around 510 or so.

Yeah not so sure about that. One of the best players on the Braves 95 team was sighed from the 94 expos in Marquis Grissom.

94 expos were the best team in the league.

Marquis Grissom
Moises Alou
Larry Walker
Delino Deshields
Cliff Floyd
Pedro Martinez
John Wettland
Will Cordero
Randell White
Joey Eischen
Mel Rojas

just off the top of my head. Most of those guys left right after 94 and helped multiple other teams win titles. It's not romantic to think they were going to win. That team was stacked.

The biggest what if, by far. They were World Series good. Would they have ever left Montreal?

The inevitable Braves/Expos NLCS would have been epic. This was going to be the first year with a wild card round in the playoffs but that obviously ended up being 1995 instead.

Montreal would have probably won the division but that NLCS would have been a coin flip.

Can't argue that estimate one bit. Crime dog was my favorite player, and i frequently use this argument as to why I loathe major league baseball as an adult. That and almost everyone else started juicing bigly after that point.

Cubs would’ve jumped the Cards for 4th in the division.

Bagwell broke his hand when he was hit by a pitch right before the strike. It was the second year in a row he got hit on that hand and broke it.
