1994 49ers were probably the best team I ever saw.

I can't remember two teams in my lifetime that were bigger favorites to win prior to the start of the season.

And 1989 Niners have a far far far better resume...and a better QB by far than the Skins and Rypien.

Niners also lost 2 games by a combined 5 points.

And were #1 in offense and #3 in defense.

Oh and the playoffs? They destroyed every opponent by a combined score of 126-26.

They were 100 points better than their 3 opponents.

That 91 super bowl was the first one that I was really interested in as a kid. I remember the Washington O-Line mauling Buffalo's defense opening up huge holes on the goal line.

Redskins two losses that year came in week 13 to the Cowboys who used a halftime hail mary for a TD and in the last week to Philly when Washington was resting their starters.

I saw a documentary on those Bills teams that made four straight super bowls and Don Beebe said the 91 redskins was the best team he had ever seen.

Ok so maybe we can say the 91 Skins are the best team the Bills played in the late 80's/early 90's.

Weaker schedule and lower MOV(11 compared to 16) than the 91 Redskins, also same regular season record. Don't get me wrong, I love the 89 49ers they're my personal favorite team of all-time but the facts don't indicate they're a better team than 91 Redskins by any stretch.

Of course, the one Lions team in my lifetime that has a playoff win had to run into that buzzsaw in the NFC Championship game.

Statistics site Football Outsiders has ranked the 1991 Redskins as the greatest team in their ratings history stating that the team "may have been the most well-rounded team in NFL history. [...] A lot of the best teams in NFL history got a little extra boost by picking on an easy schedule, but not Washington. They had an average schedule, and a harder-than-average schedule of opposing defenses. One reason for that: 1991 was not only the year of the best overall team in [their rating system's] history. It was also the year of the best defense in DVOA history, which showed up on Washington's schedule twice: the 1991 Philadelphia Eagles."

The only knock against the 1991 Redskins is that '91 was a down year for the NFL. It was the only season from 1983-1998 that the 49ers missed the playoffs, the Giants were mediocre after losing Parcells and Belichick and the Cowboys were not at their dynasty form yet. The second best team in the NFC that year was a Lions team with Erik Kramer as their QB.

I would submit the 84 49ers (not 89)

15-1 and the 1 loss by by a field goal against a good Steelers team at Pitt

playoff resume:

Beat the Giants (Parcell's 2nd season would win it all 2 years later

Beat the Bears (would win the SB the next year)

Beat The Dolphins (14-2 and Marino's 49 TD season)

To me that's a lot more impressive than oh they had to play the fricking Eagles twice

Well that's a subjective opinion, the fact remains the 91 Redskins played a tougher schedule than the teams being raised and were within 5 points of completing an undefeated season. They utterly dominated football, possessed no weaknesses, and had one of the all-time greatest HCs.

Never said they were, just that it isn't a ridiculous position to take to say the 91 skins were the best team of all time.

Not sure why having a slightly more difficult regular season schedule than most should be such a big deal. Beating Atlanta and Detroit to get to the Super Bowl doesn't carry a lot of weight with me.
