Currently on MLB Network. All the little things that could have changed the series that I had not thought about in a while. I never thought I would see another one as gut wrenching as 1980, but this one was damn close. Then the F'n Mets went on to beat my American League team.

Loved Mike Scott but the Astros constantly blew leads in the series and Scott did not pitch a game seven. He apparently admitted to scuffing the ball to throw those split cutters.

The 1986 MLB postseason was the best of all time. Both the NLCS and the ALCS were fantastic. Then we got a classic 7 game World Series with Boston and NY Mets.

Listened to that game in my office. 42 and Lexi fron . It was getting late so walked to Port Authority with my transistor. No AM radio then in the Lincoln Tunnel.

I can’t help it

Moth to flame or some shite

There was a mis-called DP as I recall that was the difference in the series

Obviously no instant replay then, but the umpire later admitted he missed the call

‘80 and ‘86 were the reason ‘17 was so good

Reid Ryan said it perfectly postgame in LA. I have it taped and listen to it every once in a while

Of course, Crane strained that relationship since

Had football practice that day. Figured game would be over by the end (IIRC it was a Wednesday and I didn’t get home until 7:30-7:45. It was still gong on when I got home.

After 1980 this one stung bad.

Astros did blow that series for sure. Hurt as a kid but I didn't dislike those Mets. Two fun but very different teams. It was such an epic series but I can't draw myself to watch Game 6 ever again.

I’m watching it

I had forgotten Ashby’s failure to get the bunt down on the suicide in the 1st

And he whiffed on a strike. Very weak

Sr year at LSU checking in. Walked around like a zombie when it was all over.

Astros pen was huge in losing that series. Especially Smith. Games 3,5,6 all winnable. There were always questions about why Deshaies was not used out of the pen. Supposedly the reason was he took too long to get warm.

Smith was wild in that 9th

The 2 walks were the game

If Hatcher is not in LC for both Dykstra and Hernandez, Astros win

Soooo many ifs that all lead to ‘17

Hated that douche. Thought he was a prick then and the way the future played out, my judgment was spot on.

Many of those Mets players went on to be exposed as less than stellar human beings

They definitely didn’t earn the goodwill they got and get, but hey, I’m ready to embrace the Astros as villains

Let’s play ball

Nah

For me, ‘80 set the hook

By the time ‘86 came around, I had shite it out, and never felt the string running when the hook came back
