This is probably a dumb question, but is the grass just dead all over the fairway?
Also, what caused the green blotches throughout the fairway? I first thought it was low spots that collect water, but they're on the side of little hills too, not just the bottom.

It just seems weird that they're not completely brown everywhere. The green patches throw me off.

From what I've read, the R&A basically let's mother nature do her thing outside of the greens. They're not as anal as the USGA.
