If you haven't enough to worry about concerning your investments today there is article about this asteroid that has a HUGE amount of gold in it and mentions space mining companies that have started up.

No, there’s no incentive to bring it down even if they can since the qty of valuable material would cause too much disruption.

If they can use it to build stuff up there then it’s a huge help with the cost of putting items in orbit.

You are also assuming their estimates are correct since they have not physically sampled the rock yet.

That’s not how economics works. If we all of a sudden had a ton of gold, it would just devalue gold.

I imagine the cost to mine right now would be extremely expensive. probably not even profitable no matter how much is there unless gold value increases with supply

I read something the other day that says to make real money in cases like this, you need to focus on the "pick and shovel" companies.

It was explained that in the Gold Rush of 1849, most all of the gold miners ended up no better or worse off than when they left. The ones who made all the money were the ones who sold them the picks and shovels they used to mine with.

Find companies that support these industries and put your money there. That's where you can find diversified, real growth over the long term.

You don't think the politicians are going to let them beam it down tax free do you?

I've seen Neil De Grasse Tyson go on and on about asteroid mining

I get that it might be beneficial from an availability of resources standpoint but gold and platinum aren't going to make people in the 3rd world better farmers.

If gold was as common as aluminum, what all would it be used for in commercial applications?
