Whitney will keep its name in La and Tx, not sure but Hancock in La may operate under the Whitney name as well.

I'm sure that is what is being communicated now, but there's not a chance in hell that will happen permanently.

No, you will have to have either an Ole Miss, Miss. State or Southern Miss debit card.....

I'll let you know in a few minutes, but it deals with the market share in these states as opposed to MS, Al, ad Fl.

I'm familiar with that regulatory prohibition against concentration of deposits by any single institution in a market and just having different names on the sign outside doesn't matter. The market share limit is for competitive reasons and for limiting the control of the market by one institution.

Plus, there is no way a combined Whitney + Hancock in Louisiana or Texas would exceed the market share concentration limit, regardless of the name.

It isn't a regulatory issue. From what I was just told it is just the way they decided to do it due to Whitney having a stronger presence in South La and especially Nola.

Eta: maybe it means the Saints debit cards will not be impacted.

Maybe if you define the city limits as Orleans parish. There is definitely at least one branch on Vets. Their website lists 8 branches in greater nola. Hancock has a decent presence here. They are a big sponsor with teh Hornets, Wed @ the Square, etc. Off the top of my head, I can think of 5 friends that work for Hancock.

Every time I've heard the story that a bank would keep its name in a market because of its "brand" recognition, it turned out to be only temporary.

They meant for it to be permanent, but eventually the "brand" was transitioned to the new bank's name.

The marketing and administrative costs (forms, loan documents, customer monthly statements, stationery, etc.) for maintaining two separate identities has always trumped the value of the "brand."

Maybe Whitney will be different. We will see.

One senior banker I know in Baton Rouge was recently offered a pretty high level position with Hancock. She is reluctant to take it because she is concerned that Hancock will be bought soon by a bigger fish and her job will be axed.

This Whitney purchase might delay that possibility, but it won't eliminate it.

I didn't take a job with Whitney because I didn't want to move to Lafayette or Charlotte.
