For those with investment knowledge, at what point would you jump back in

You don't want somebody with investment knowledge. You want a clairvoyant. If you are smart enought to have such a large cash position at this time, in this market, you can't be a big enough fool to get your financial advice from an internet forum.

You should've never jumped out. You set yourself back a good bit by doing so.

Yeah, for those claiming I'm bragging or lying, I hope when you're my age that you are further along than me. I got a late start but it is what it is. Figured some of you young investment masterminds with multi million dollar accounts would throw an old man a bone.

The issue is no one knows. It is much easier to know when to get out versus when to get back in. All I know is that once the market has made the pivot and the lows are past us we won't know it at the time and most people will claim we are still going lower. Good luck.

My best guess is we for sure tap 3500 and very well may drop below the 200 WMA. I'd enter there.

We are probably looking at a 2000 financial crisis that will last a couple of years.

But I don't really know what the hell I'm talking about. Good luck!

Too many unknowns.

Is this all of your 401k? meaning all cash?

Do you have a taxable account? If so, how much?

Other assets?

When you retire, is this what you will use for income or do you have other sources of income?

Lots of questions....

5 years is a short time frame and that should dictate where and when you park your money.

Sitting in cash account with @$750k in my 401K.
26DV's??

First, congrats on having >$750K in a 401k.

Second, it's a retirement account, so I'm assuming you're looking at more buy-hold long-term positions, and I'm assuming, perhaps mistakenly, that your account is over-heavy cash.

By year end, do you expect markets to be higher or lower? How about in 5-10yrs?
If your answer to those is "higher", then you need to be invested.

My guess is we are 5-10% from a bottom. Unless you think you can time the bottom accurately, put a strategy together, and plan on incrementally reinvesting over the next month or two (15-20%/wk). However, if we have an obvious capitulation (aka bottom), be prepared to reinvest at an accelerated rate (days, not weeks/months).

At least that's the way I'm approaching it.

Wasn't expecting that.
A fairly short (5yr) time-horizon changes the info-set quite a bit. You need to include that in the OP.

What is your risk tolerance with the $750K?

A dot.com bubble followed by a 9/11 event?
Gosh, I hope you're right ... that you really don't really know WTF you're talking about.

No better way to kickstart the economy than to rev up the machine.

Find some beat down high value stocks. Low PE

They should be safe to ride for next 5 yrs.

Good dividend stocks as well. Should atleast get dividend back and even if stock is barely moved, you've gained

You should definitely try to time the market.

For now, shift to derivatives and options. Also, short gold.

Ehh, 5 year is short but I wouldn't say 5 year is his time horizon for his investment. Are you guys going all cash AT retirement?
I'm in my thirties so I don't have a game plan for what my allocation will be then but I'm for sure expecting to still be in the 50-60% range AT retirement. Still a lot of years left to live from that point

Negative.
In risk terms, investment horizon is a different animal.
