Way too much single stock risk for the measly div IMO.

ETA there could be upside I’m unfamiliar with. No expert but damn that’s been dead money for a while.

This is starting to feel like a Gaucho alt troll thread.

I don’t think it’s a troll. I just looked at the charts and hadn’t realized how dreadfully the stock consistently performed the past 5 years.

It’s kind of funny how everyone complained Hans would run the company into the ground just like he did at Ericsson….only to have the board replace him with Schulman.

I work for VZ and as our cfo says we’re basically trading like a bond …with dividend 8% gain on your money seems realistic over the next 12 months

?? Why I Chose to Invest in VZ (Verizon Communications Inc.)

In a market where many companies are trading near all-time highs, I find myself hesitant to "buy at the top." I prefer a more value-oriented approach, seeking opportunities where the price reflects a margin of safety. Verizon (VZ) has been on my watchlist for over a year, and its recent dip below $40 per share caught my attention. To me, this represents a compelling entry point — I believe in "buying the dip" when a company meets my fundamental standards.

VZ also appeals to me as a relatively defensive asset. In uncertain economic conditions, I value stability and consistent performance, and Verizon’s seems to offer that.

Copilot helped me polish this statement lol

Thanks for this post! This is a great example of a defensive investment. I'm retired. Interest rates are going down. Fixed income opportunities are looking less great. So, folks like me are looking to replace some of that with stocks like VZ, T, EPD CPQ, hoping that they will act like a solid bond. Of course, the earlier Starlink reference in this thread is exactly the type of concern (minor at the moment but still real) that ought to be considered.

One downside of VZ is I own it.

So it could go down 50% any year.

Just like other stocks.

BMY has a good dividend.

It may comeback.

I own shares so there is risk.

I got in at $33 just to hold for the dividend. It’s not a growth stock but $33 was way undervalued. Largest cellular provider in America; its a low risk play.
