Not really. California only has two systems, the University of California System (Cal-Berkeley, UCLA) and the California State University System (Fresno State, Long Beach State).
Plus, in addition to the SIX systems in Texas, there are four schools that aren't affiliated with ANY of the systems (Midwestern State, Texas Women's, Stephen F. Austin State, and Texas Southern).
This is simply big waste. I wrote a letter to my state rep last year suggesting that they ditch the Texas State system (it's the smallest of the six) and move the schools to one of the other systems, as well as moving the unaffiliated schools to a system as well.

Dude, did you miss the point of this thread? They just took physical delivery of $1B in gold, they're about to make it rain! eta: So you might want to run for cover.

re: those trying to figure out how they got the $20b number.
I think it refers to all assets managed by UTIMCO, not just UT's endowment. UTIMCO also manages the PUF which makes donations each year to schools in the Texas and Texas A&M systems, as well as the UT endowment, and two other endowment funds. All told, it's about $26b according to this: LINK
