Unemployment benefits for independent contractors

I have been trying to find out who is eligible for benefits under new stimulus package if they are independent contractors. It affects some of my kin and it seems they may be eligible under this plan. Do they need to go to unemployment office and fill out the forms or is it online with offices being closed? Would like to hear from anyone affected by these new rules.

If anyone has anecdotal info please share. Not sure if need to apply now or wait for bill to be passed and signed.

In Kentucky, it was announced yesterday that independent contractors and substitute teachers were now eligible for unemployment benefits.
We'll see what gets approved after they are submitted.

He 100% said IC workers are now eligible. A quick google search will give you 100s of
Links verifying this info.
I would go ahead and apply. Gonna take a while to get approved anyways

I also need to get as much info on this as I have 2 independent contractors that I depend on. I plan to pay them at least for the next month, but after that I don’t know what’s going to happen. We are down to working only two days a week now as most of our clients have shut down and I don’t want to have to let them go if I can manage not to.

I did a google search this morning before I started thread. I found a link that said independent contractors and gig workers would be eligible for state unemployment plus an additional $600 for the next 4 months. I have not told my kin about it yet but will have them apply this afternoon or tomorrow.

Trump himself said it during his briefing yesterday. Made a big deal about it being the first time ever.
