What an asinine statement. Why can't you do both?
You can teach them to work hard and be productive and still be a blessing to them when you're gone by leaving a little something (which I'm assuming you will unless you squander everything you accumulate in this life).

Bro please don’t give your money to charity
They’re all scams and when you think about how only evil people like bill gates and Warren buffet give money to charity it really makes you think. The people who push charity are the same ones pushing the mandatory 40% tip button on the iPad
Leave your money to me and I’ll do good with it

I've got about $300k in permanent life insurance..
Right now, it goes to my wife to help get the kids through high school and college.
Later, it can help my wife offset losing my ss income and pensions.
If we both are gone, that can be their passed estate.
The goal is to spend our money. It is an impossible goal to end up with $0 when i/we die. But that is the goal.
I do like the idea of passing along real estate. They aren't making any more of that. The goal is to get a condo free and clear that the family can use.

I know your schtick but I'm not leaving anything to charity. Me and my wife will enjoy what we made together and we hope our children do the same for themselves.

Sure, some people can. Some people can only learn by doing. Not going to take the risk with my kids. I want them capable of taking care of themselves and their kids.

I’m not joking
Maybe the bored housewives that run charities should trade the Mercedes in for a f250 and go out to the pipeline if they want money instead of stealing it from working people

That would be a great start.

Proverbs 13:22: “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children.”

With child at age 7, I'm just trying to stay alive and productive enough to get my child to adulthood. Once that happens, I can start thinking about estate planning.

This. I've told them that the better they do, the better I do for them. That's based on effort and money management and not purely income. Why would I leave extra if they're just gonna piss it away?

I've told my parents to spend their money on the things that make them happy -- just make sure to leave enough for us to take care of them and bury them.
For us, I want to do what we want to do when we retire within reason. I don't plan to not leave anything for my kids; we've given way more than many parents at this point already. What I can say is that our kids will NOT be left with our bills for them to worry about.
We're 53, kids are 30, 25, 22 and we're about to start looking for an estate planning attorney. I feel like we're late to the game.
