We bought in Lake Highlands a few years ago. Really happy with the location, neighborhood, and access to so many things. I work downtown and the wife works near Galleria.

I moved to dallas in 85, if I could do it again I would have moved to ft worth. Downtown ft worth is tight.

Any other area I should look at? Looking to stay north of Dallas

Frisco or the surrounding areas are pretty nice.

We live in far north Dallas which we really enjoy the established neighborhoods and mature trees. Frisco/Allen/McKinney is nice but not for us.

Traffic is only getting worse so pick a place to minimize commute if possible. Considering renting to get a feel for different communities if you can

As a total outsider, what do McKinney, Plano, Frisco look like these days? As nice as the Woodlands? Better? Lots of local places, or overrun with Starbucks, Zoe's Kitchens, Paneras, whole foods, etc, making it a suburban Mecca?

The homogenization of suburban America is preposterous.

There are some areas south of the George Bush around the NDT along the border of Plano and Dallas that are still nice and not too expensive.

This is where I live. All along Frankford Rd are pockets of Middle/Upper Middle Class neighborhoods.

If your wife is going to be working in East FW I would recommend towns farther west. Carrollton, the Colony, etc.

I agree with you. I live in the North Dallas area and it would be a trek out to FW for work. I would be looking throughout the NW cooridor if I was in his shoes.

Colleyville is super nice but it is also closer to FW than Dallas. There are a lot of great choices and I would expect drive time to be one of the primary deciding factors.

Some people don't mind the drive time and are used to it, so maybe an hour commute both ways isn't a big deal to them. I think the advice about renting for a bit while they get used to an area is probably a good idea.

Driving an hour would make me hate my life. Even a 40 minute drive was too much. I prefer 15 minutes or less personally.

I leave the house around 6:50 and can make it from pretty much the DNT to 114 via Bush in 18 minutes every morning and afternoon.

45 minutes each way for me for the past 13/14 years, 98% rural. Looking for the exit door, now. Drive use to be 5 minutes for about 25 years....karma, I guess.
