re: So, at what point do we put a flyer in on GE? It's 14.62 at the moment.

I bet buyers of Kodak wish they had their money back.

Who knows when or if GE will be a good buy again? Echoing what Stout said, I've looked at it several times, but was never convinced that all of the bad news was out, or that a turnaround was close at hand. I've owned GE in the past (about 15 years ago). But after Jack Welch left, I think the company began losing its way - some of it may have happened under his watch (that's debatable). Jeff Immelt was to GE what Lewis Campbell was to Textron. It took Textron several years to get the smell of Campbell out of the Providence HQ and get the company (and stock) going in the right direction again. I believe that GE's issues are much deeper than Textron's were (Campbell tried to make TXT a mini version of GE), and so, I don't think I'd want my money tied up there, when I could be getting better returns somewhere else.

I’ve been in since 08, maybe it’s time to sell

Been watching GE considering investing in it. I can't get past the opportunity cost of having money tied up in GE vs literally any other stock knowing what a turn around GE has in front of it.
I was in the same boat as you for a long time. But I finally bought GE at $14. My theory is that GE is actually significantly undervalued and in a mini-bear market due to the exact FOMO scenario you expressed. People are not selling GE because it is actually a horrible company with no future. They are selling because FANG stocks are killing it and they need cash to buy into the current dot com bubble. GE isn't the prettiest girl at the dance, but she's not nearly as ugly as everyone suddenly thinks she is while standing next to the cheerleaders.

Kodak and GE have very little in common. Kodak's entire existence was based on technology that was rapidly being replaced. GE has had mismanagement but they still make products that people use today and in the near future.

General Electric to restate two years of earnings
So who here will buy when GE hits $10?
quote:
General Electric will restate its earnings for 2016 and 2017 as it adopts a new accounting standard, according to a regulatory filing Friday.
The updated accounting standard, which will take into account revenue from long-term contracts, will result in a 13 cent cut in reported earnings per share for 2016 and a cut of 16 cents per share for 2017, according to the company's 10-K filing.
The company will restate earnings when it reports 2018 results, GE said in the filing. GE reports first-quarter earnings on April 20.
GE is adopting the new accounting standards as the Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating GE over its accounting for long-term service contracts.
GE also is facing potential legal action by the U.S. Department of Justice over allegations that its GE Capital unit and now-defunct WMC Mortgage Corp. unit violated U.S. law in connection with subprime mortgages, according to the filing.
So who here will buy when GE hits $10?

I actually put in a $14 limit buy order last week. I'll cancel it and see what happens the next few weeks.

Insane. They better hope their doubling down on aviation, healthcare and power will pay off. They're launching a ton of projects aimed at cost saving and efficiency through the use of software via predix.
Side note: The funny thing about predix is the team is the development team, for the most part, is not very impressive. AWS often gets used instead.

GE on the cusp of falling past $14. There has been a lot of support for it at $14 but I guess that'll end today.
ETA It set a new 52 week low at $13.95 a few minutes ago

It's one of two once-in-a-generation accounting changes that the FASB has been working on for over a decade. It affects everyone... GE is just one of the biggest profile companies affected. FASB is going to stick a bunch of leases on the balance sheet next year so we have that to look forward to then.

Yea, the mortgages issue is one thing
But the earnings restatement is simply due to ASC 606 adoption in 2018. Most companies opted to elect in 2017, but GE chose to wait until 2018
ASC 606 basically just changes the timing for revenue recognition.
Overall, I don’t see the adoption/restatement having a big impact on share price. More so, the outcome of the mortgage issue and the overall direction of the Company and whether certain segments are sold off

I agree. It's just bad timing from a media standpoint. I actually really like Flannery so far. Definitely has a lot more promise than that last jackass.
