They gave you a 7% bonus before you walked in on your first day and now your complaining about not getting a higher raise?
If I was your boss I’d tell you to get fricked and your arse would be on the street before you had a chance to take your first coffee shite.

Got me there but hey man we're making multi-million dollar decisions based on those spreadsheets so take that for what it's worth.

And I'd be hired within 3 minutes because that's how desperate the industry currently is for my position and why I will never get fired from my job unless I do something outrageously stupid.

Who’s this “we” you’re referring to because I know some fresh grad isn’t involved with those deals.

Until you have a pattern of jumping ship after a year and companies decide it’s not worth it to hire you. Also, good luck getting promoted if you keep switching jobs after a year. Lastly, even if you are getting raises with each new company as you join, eventually you will price yourself out or it’s just cheaper to bring in new grads for cheaper for your entry level data job.

Step 1: Present your "truth" to your boss.
Step 2: Record conversation.
Step 3: Post to youtube.
Step 4: Post the link on the Money Board.

So just curious, when you move up in position and starting getting bonus'
If you get a 30% one year and then 10% the next year with a 5% raise in between, will you feel slighted? Because this will happen alot if variable comp is a big part of your job.

My boss, my boss's boss, and my boss's boss's boss. If you work for a large enough company yes you are.

Maybe you deserve more than a 3% raise and maybe your company is paying under market. Entirely possible. Have you done any research to see where your comp is compared to market?
But there are a few things you need to understand.
1) Your sign-on bonus, especially as a recent grad, does basically three things: it ensures you show up (especially if you agreed to the job before graduation), it gives you some cash to buy some new clothes / work clothes / helps you relocate if needed, and it helps transistion you into the work world.
2) What size of a company do you work for? Larger companies often have this stupid thing called "HR" and one of the things they do is try to shove everyone's pay into "narrow bands". This is so no one sues the company alleging pay discrimination. If your boss is telling you after 1 year he can only give a 3 percent raise, it may well be that HR and his bosses have said the highest raise a first year can get is 3%.
3) You really, really need to understand the differences between bonus pay and base pay. Lots and lots and lots of professionals have total pay go up and down. If your base pay ever goes down, yeah that's a big problem. But bonuses can and do move around, sometimes nice and fat, sometimes no bonus at all. Sometimes completely in your control, sometimes not at all in your control.
You are a data engineer. I'm guessing (yes I'm stereotyping) that your social skills are poor. You come on here to complain, and when people try to help you understand, you jump all over them and basically say they don't know what they are talking about.
This isn't the O-T, man. People are honestly trying to help you understand what's going on, because we've all been a first year employee and didn't know anything about corporate life.
If after all of this, you still feel your current employer has "slighted" you, then since you say you are in an in-demand field, I would get in touch with a headhunter and see what they can do for you.

I appreciate the respect you just gave me and the solid advice. The majority of people were here to belittle me but you're right a few of the other people who commented did give actual, well-intened responses like yourself. Thank you for that.

There is something intrinsically wrong about being paid less than what you made the previous year,
I agree.
You should quit. And then get them to rehire you with a sign on bonus. That'll show them that you are smarter than the game that they are playing.

You were not coming here for advice. You came here to gripe and complain about a perceived slight in hopes of finding people who would rally behind you.
