My wife is a Regional Planner at the Shaw building and they had a meeting telling everyone to not worry and go about business as usual...But since this company is outta Chicago and will be moving the headquarters doesnt look good for a lot of folks. Hopefully they have a little something in place for people...doubt it though....This was probably very off topic but just thought id throw my two cents out there. This company must have had some serious jack to make this purchase thats for sure

There is a difference between Louisiana being less profitable from a tax perspective and it being a difficult place to do business. Those of us that love Louisiana understand we will make less money by staying here. Either way, Canes was doing well based out of Louisiana and only moved because they were greedy.
They were greedy because they wanted to move to an environment with less taxation? A company that wants to keep more of its profits rather than send them to the government is greedy?

I advocate for lower taxes and making more money as much as the next guy. Heck, I could move to Houston tomorrow and get a job making another 10-20K more than I make now. I want to make money but I love my home too. Louisiana is my home. To me, it isn't hard to draw that distinction. I would argue it would be greedy of me to move when I am making a great living here simply to make a little more.
Many old Louisiana business owners have kept their HQ or operations here because they are thankful for all that Louisiana has provided to them even though it is probably more fiscally advantageous to go elsewhere. It used to be called pride or patriotism or whatever.
I was educated here. I obtained a pretty cheap college experience here. I got my start here. I plan on staying even if I could make more money elsewhere. That also goes for if I ever start a business. Just my opinion. Without understanding what Todd Graves was facing and totally from the outside, it looked like a greedy move to me.

They are a client of ours. Wonder what that will mean.

by the state, i assume you are referencing a lot of the hurricane related contracts with flood control, environmental restoration, and road home programs etc...that is only one part of their business.
being in such business, i always got the vibe they won a lot of that due in a decent way to their homegrown political and business connections. plenty of other national engineering companies win state and corps contracts in LA, a) not like Shaw does and b) I wonder ten years from now when BP clean water act fines and oil royalty money will be in full flow, if the cozy relationship will still be intact.

Wow that was profoundly dumb

Cane's still operates a Louisiana corporate office in BR. The office in Dallas is the hub for every restaurant outside of Louisiana.

I would imagine that if he's dumb enough to post that:
1) He's not important enough to have found out.
2) If he did, it will be deemed "immaterial information", as it was not reliable.
However, they will probably scare the shite out of him with the possibility of federal prison for a month or so....
