Mint, the budgeting app owned by Intuit, is shutting down. Intuit announced on Tuesday that Mint will get absorbed into Intuit’s other service, Credit Karma, when it officially goes away on January 1st, 2024 (via Bloomberg). But it’s still not clear whether Credit Karma will get the budgeting features that Mint is known for.

This sucks…Decade of tracking and streamlined financial management gone. I never even received a notice and stumbled upon this Verge article.

Also reading that Personal Capital was acquired by Empower so that’s no longer independent.

May the search begin…need to find an alternative with a quickness.

ETA: Best options I’ve found so far appear to be…

1) Make the transfer over the Credit Karma
2) Monarch…high quality visualizations but $100/yr. Newer company so longevity comes into question. No ads.
3) Empower. Previously known as Personal Capital. Great for net worth and investments tracking. Not the best for budgeting. Advisors will ask to manage your money.

Article that describes what Credit Karma will bring over. 3 years of transaction history.

Read about this the other day, very unfortunate. Still trying to determine which route to go, leaning toward Quicken Simplifi or YNAB. My primary use for Mint is the monthly budgeting/recap.

Does credit karma not let you add accounts so I can see all my transactions in one place? I just downloaded it and can't find where I can add an account

Does Ynab cost money or do they have a free version?

Simplifi by quicken is also an alternative. Not as robust as mint but it does what I need.

I don't think they have a free version. I think it's 100 a year.

I totally get why someone, especially someone who is budget conscious, would say hell no to pay 100 a year for what kind of amounts to a glorified spreadsheet, but it is worth it to me for the convenience and ease of use.

They do have hiccups every now and then with importing transactions, especially with AMEX.

Haven't had a problem with that in several months but there's been periods in the past where it was a little wonky with AMEX.

Overall it is not perfect and is definitely a little pricy for what it is, but I've been using it for 6 or 7 years now and I would say that it has been worth it for me.

This made me concerned about my data privacy since Mint had a great deal of information. For anyone similarly concerned you can delete your account data on Mint pretty easily.

This stinks I’ve had Mint for probably 15 years. Nice to see my growth from when starting to work. Not surprising though since I never paid a cent for the service.

This is a concern now. I’ll be deleting ASAP.

This is very close to us. Highest recommendation.

The only long-term pain has been periodically reconnecting to your financial institutions. If you manually enter all your transactions, you don't even have to do that, but I'm lazy.

So credit karma bought 3 years worth of history for the entire mint user base? Hell of a deal.

I’ll stick with non-cloud hard drive only quicken

Same, I joined in 2011 and not being able to look back at previous investments and transactions will suck. I guess I’ll check out Credit Karma.

Are you budgeting?

I budget for a month or two (excel).

Use sumif to allow me categorize spend for budget vs actual.

Tighten stuff up and ignore.

Also have cash flow file kind of accrue cost so I know if I am funded

Intuit owns both Credit Karma and Mint.

They are just killing off the one they couldn't monetize.
