I too, lost money on NBIS by getting too far over my skis on the options. I'm still into NBIS, but only shares with an occasional option when the conditions are right. That wasn't a penny stock though. It's looks like a long term winner, to me.
The reason for this post is that I have a friend who is from India and he lost $300K on shorts. I asked him who he tried to short, and he said, "Apple".
I laughed, because i know this guy didn't do any research, and did it just to figure out if he could. He is the kind of guy who has an Audi, but will walk to his doctor's appointment 10 miles away. He just marches to the beat of his own drummer, and one day thought he would take all of his savings and try to short Apple. He probably had to Google how to do it. He doesn't have the patience to buy stock or research it.
He's a lucky bastard, too. He may have lost all hs money shorting Apple, but he'll probably find the winning Powerball ticket on the ground one day. One time we were at a Trailblazers game and we put money into one of those 50/50 raffles and won. We split it and it was about $2800 each.

Takes a certain type of gambler to put $10k or (much) more into the investing equivalent of scratch offs.
I feel like with penny stocks you’re better off just buying like 200 bucks worth on several stocks and hope one runs and nets several thousand and most the others you at least get half the money back
