Paid our home off about 6 months ago. Should I be receiving some paperwork from the mortgage company? Deed? Something?

Try contacting your mortgage company

They should provide a "satisfaction of mortgage" or similar.

Some companies also file the paperwork at the courthouse, which indicates the mortgage has been cancelled.

As previous poster said, contact the mortgagee and find out their process, if any.

Congrats. Sleep hits different when the house is paid off.

As stated contact the company because you should have received something by now here in LA. Also, congrats in paying it off.

You might have to ask them a couple of times to record a mortgage cancellation but do it. It’s good to have that recorded so in future no one has to contact the mortgage holder to see if anything is owed.

I don’t track this BS. I will “sleep” no different without a mortgage than with one.

Nonetheless, congrats to OP. Good to be done with it.

You’ll get a certified letter from your lender that the loan has been satisfied.

Welcome to the club!

As stated, YES!

Mortgage companies typically hold the title to the property as security for the loan.

Once you you've paid off the mortgage in full, the lender should release the lien on your property, and provide you with (1) lien release or discharge documents, and subsequently, (2) the title to your property.

Make sure you let your homeowners insurance agent know. If you ever make a claim, the check will be written to the mortgage company and it’s a hassle to get it rewritten.
