well at $40/barrel, gasoline price was about $1.50/gallon. So now we are at $60/barrel and we are at about $2.25/gallon. Seems like a pretty good relation to me. And as the white house said, the US oil companies can not control the price of oil. It is a global commodity.

True it is a global commodity but it seems it is at the mercy of the speculators when there appears to be no real threat of supply interuption and reserves are normal. As far as the White House goes I don't trust or believe anything that comes from any polititian. ExxonMobil and others have lined the pockets on both sides of the aisle for many years. Big Tobacco has done the same thing...IMHO.

If it is at the mercy of speculators, why are you complaining about a producer (XOM?)

Are you on dope? It would probably be best for you to avoid talking about things you have no idea about.

Does this have anything to do with the contraversial "uptick" rule?

The uptick rule has to do with the guidelines traders abide by to short equities. So the answer is no.....

Seriously Ringeaux are you a college graduate?

I am fully aware what makes up the pricing structure for a gallon of gas/diesel. Funny how marketing and distribution are higher on diesel. Diesel is primarily used in commercial venues. Very little is consumed by the general public. Distribution, you would think, would be far less as most commercial accounts deal in higher volumes and source from a central location (fueling depot). As far as marketing when was the last time you saw a commercial or any marketing piece for diesel fuel?

Why are you comparing oil companies with tobacco companies? What is the correlation? Is there a problem with a company who makes profits? Are you sure you don't want to put Microsoft in there as well?

That is not what they mean by marketing. That amount is effectively the markup of the retail seller (Racetrack etc....). Nothing to do with television commercials for goodness sake.

Dear Mr. Kramer,

I didn't realize the "money talk" board was only for experts. Could you walk me thru the step by step procedures for open heart surgery? Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

But how are they controlling the price if they only hold about 3%? Thats like saying AOL controls the pricing for internet ads.

that is like saying a diamond mine in South Africa controls the worldwide price of diamonds and the diamond merchants that set the actual price are merely innocent bystanders

OPEC would be who you should direct your displeasure with. And of course our congress for the past few decades by preventing our companies from competing by restricting our access to oil in this country.

The Big Oil companies control approximately 6% of the Worlds oil reserves. The vast vast majority are concluded by governments around the world.

Perhaps you may want to just walk away; it is getting embarassing.
