If you sell your ETH on coinbase it goes to your linked bank account. Takes 2-3 days I believe

No. It goes in your USD wallet on coinbase. You have to manually withdraw it to your bank account.

quote:

Oh, so you cant have any USD staying in coinbase? You would have to then repurchase Ether and wait another week for clearing?

It can sit on coinbase. You have four wallets there. BTC, ETH, LTC and USD

You can insta-trade in coinbase just like any other exchange as long as you have funds already in your account. The delay happens when you are depositing fiat into your coinbase account.

My apologies Mrsmith, thank you for the correct info. Good to know there is instant trades on Coinbase. Have not messed with USD wallet on the app yet

No worries! Just want people to be able to join in the fun. I'm not even sure if it's called a USD wallet but that's what I've been calling it.

Unless you're balling out, why isn't coinbase a a suitable wallet? 250k insured.

I'm genuinely curious to what I'm missing here

Sure its FDIC insured but if you plan on keeping ETH longterm, why not keep it even more secured, and physically hold it on a wallet. Id hate to be part of the process if anything happened and the FDIC did have to get involved.

The increase in exposure ETH has received recently will only make places like Coinbase, Gemini, Polo a greater risk for cyber attacks.

What if you physically lose the wallet or drive or it is stolen?

You should keep a paper backup of your wallet and keys as well

It took less than 48 hours for me. For what it's worth, I emailed them on the 2nd day. They emailed me back with a canned response but magically, I got my verification at about the same time.

This was my email:

Hey! I know you guys are slammed right now. I just want to check and make sure there wasn't anything else needed for my verification since it was still pending.
Thanks!

Their response:
quote:

Hi there, Thanks for reaching out. Recently there has been a steep increase in the number of signups which has caused a delay in our manual review process. We are working through the applications as quickly as possible and hope to have you verified very shortly. Thank you for your patience!

I got their response at 8:41am and my verification email at 10:28am
Could have been coincidence though

My thoughts is that if I don't NEED them to be easily traded (long term holding), then it would prevent the headache of dealing with FDIC in the event of a site hack

Love my Nano Ledger. What's great is with the word retrieval system, I can buy a new one and retrieve my ETH with this backup.

So no fear of losing it, fire, etc

Directly from Ledger (in France).

Paid 20 bucks for expedited shipping and had it in like 4-5 business days.

Did you have to also pay the tariff costs? What was it total including shipping?

I'm considering buying one directly from France.

Are you looking into buying a Cryptosteel?

COuldn't you just chisel a key into a steel bar for 1/20th the price? I thought the purpose of a wallet was to store digit info
