I dont think you need link to run a node. I thought that's what I read in the telegram.

You don’t but no one is gonna use a node that isn’t putting up link as collateral. More link you stake the better your reputation

What is link trying to do? When they start talking about side chains I’m too dumb to know what that means.

It’s not a side chain. They are running nodes that pull external data through apis into smart contracts. Basically the nodes are decentralized so the contract doesn’t have a single point of failure with potential bad data. You query several nodes using the link network and request the external data for the smart contracts

I have a really bad feeling we're going to see an alt coin apocalypse if btc slides below 6800.

Alts are going to be sideways until btc pings a ceiling after the bear market reverses. I'm probably going to pretend crypto doesn't exist for the next 2 years and see where it's at then.

Havent we always sort of expected a deep purge of a lot of garbage altcoins?

This might be good in order to consolidate everything into the more legitimate projects.

until we see an alt coin use case go big and make the next non alt coin it's hard to even invest in this stuff if you aren't extremely technical. even then the garbage projects are seemingly everywhere and I'm probably picking a few of them I missed.

honestly other than seeing people here post I have done no research. it maybe awesome but all the node stuff and buy now seems gimmicky at face value. will need to read some whitepapers to really know if they have something.

only one i own today is xlm. has some good players involved and a solid use case.

I like the ethereum contracts the best though. can just drop in javascript and go. really nice but transaction speed is painful

I never liked the shilling from the VEN team and there were some somewhat dishonest moments in their marketing tactics. Just doesn't pass my own personal smell test.

I know that doesn't mean shite and I could look really stupid, but I try to go with my gut.

Does anyone know if you can still swap VEN for VET on an exchange or do I need to wait until the 10th to do it in the wallet?

How will XLM increase in value though? It's just a token that is used to pay a small fee to use the network. The problem with utility tokens is that their use as a network toll and as speculative assets are at odds, rising prices with speculation probably hinders adoption. And as adoption increases, speculators will see that there is no inherent investment value and the price will sink.

I think it's important to remember that you aren't investing in a company, just a token that's needed to do business with the company. It's like investing in Chuck E Cheese tickets. No one would obviously do that. Granted, there could be some unexpected use case which drives prices up but right now that's very hard to see.

ETH getting crushed. I think I'm just going to start ignoring prices for awhile.
