% wise, when BTC is going on a run, how many times do the alts tank?

since everything is tied to BTC, essentially, thats just the way the market rolls. ideally, we will detangle from BTCs influence but that hasnt happened, yet or maybe it never will..

i use this tool to see where the money is leaving and moving into BTC LINK (TRX and XRP)

as of now, it looks like BTCs run is over and money should start flowing back into alts. guess we will see, not a confirmation either way

Has anyone had any success joining any exchange today (besides coin base)? Have tried kucoin binance and bittrex to no avail

Kucoin is giving me an error message when I try to sign up. Coinbase is working

I wish Coinbase offered more options than the standard 4 they have.

cool, I might try my hand at it next time, I want to increase my holdings in XLM and really day trading is extremely extremely difficult... and as a person with OCD, I miss out because I refuse to miss out and put stops in place that always get destroyed... something as simple as switching to BTC while everything falls might help me increase my holdings, maybe not by a lot, but any little bit helps.

Just jumping in. How fast do these things happen? From everything I’ve read, it’s pretty volatile...

your first day of buying, the best thing that could probably happen is this... I bought $1.2k of LTC at $360... only to watch it fall to $250 before I could do anything with it. Learning to be patient is going to be invaluable in this game

ya, like i said, ideally we move away from BTCs influence in time...

for now, if you notice your entire stack of alts crashing (like just happened), BTC is moving, so its a good idea to hedge against the fall if you can time it correctly.

ETH is solid. Don't sweat that one.

You are probably right. I am just coming around to the notion that crypto isn't going anywhere and will likely grow into the future

well I noticed the dip almost instantly... but that was only my 2nd BTC buy-in I've witnessed, so I haven't really learned the tricks yet. I might try my hand at it next time.

P.S: I keep gdax open with BTC all the time - if you notice right as it was starting I mentioned it was about to happen

often and yes.

BTC has less influence today than its had in the past, for a couple reasons 1) futures trading is now live and 2) a lot of "new" money is buying into alt coins and balancing the market

with that said, BTC still influences everything

youre never going to time the market correctly so dont worry about that aspect...

its often easier to just HODL, invest into what youre comfortable with, and see where you are in 3, 6, 9, 12 months

indeed, if youre around the market enough to pay attention, its a great hedge.

volume is the best indicator. if you see heavy volume coming into BTC, expect a rise.

you can pull up the BTC/USDT pair 15 min chart on a binance or poloniex and see this right now; volume came in bigly and boom, price rises.

really? I've been using all of the ETH markets... should I switch to the BTC markets?

No, not saying that. I'm saying develop an ETH position and keep it. If you want to do some trading, its fine to use ETH but don't use your hold stash.

Anyone have any issues sending eth to binance? I sent some a little over an hour ago and it hasn’t gone through. Coinbase shows it’s pending but I didn’t get an email saying it was sent and binance doesn’t show it pending.

If its still pending on Coinbase, you wont see anything on Binance regarding the transaction.

If it lasts any longer, put in a ticket to Coinbase.

Coinbase is overloaded with users imo so things are gonna be slow

Any other trusted exchanges other than Coinbase available to signup today? Cryptopia and Kucoin not working either.

maybe Gemini. Thats the other big one besides Coinbase

For dealing with alts, try Bittrex.

Cryptopia

I wouldnt put trust and Cryptopia in the same sentence. Although I use the exchange, I dont put much trust in an exchange where I can buy borderline illegal looking porn with litecoin and btc
