This is considered a "paper wallet" meaning it's solely in your possession and accessible through an internet server. Coinbase is subject to a lot more stuff bc it's technically in their possession. I think an analogy is like considering CB a bank and your "paper wallet" like physical money. I've only briefly looked at it; my ETH transfer won't hit til next week.

I looked into my ethereum wallet. It prompts you for a password to generate a wallet. This is your encryption password. Then it generates a file for you, which you save on your computer and a back up (flash drive). Then through that website you can upload a file; the one it generates for you, then it prompts for your password. Once you provide that it opens up the transfer screen and your ethereum "address" 42 character starting with a 0x. I just don't know if you can directly use this compatibly with CB
Yes, myetherwallet is compatible with CoinBase.
Think about it in terms you understand like this: The bank has paper dollars. You can either keep $100 of your money at the bank, or you can withdraw it and put it anywhere in your possession. You can put it into a safe in your house, under your mattress, or into the wallet in your back pocket. Ethereum has the same options - CoinBase is the "bank" in this analogy, and you should be taking those ether out of CB and storing them on your own computer wallet (myetherwallet, Mist, nano S, etc.), which is the same thing as taking your dollars out of the bank and putting them somewhere in your house or in your back pocket.
If you have ethereum, you can send it back and forth from any ether wallet to any other ether wallet. CoinBase's wallet (your account with them) can send it to any other wallet that you create.

So when my ETH comes in, I just send my ETH to my 42 character "0x" address and then it's accepted by that address and accessible through the file/password system associated with that address, correct?
By the way, most everyone here is playing this for the long term I assume.

Yep, just send it to your public receive address in your wallet.

Starting to wonder if any of this shite will ever come back to earth...this is ridiculous.
When I made this thread BTC was $1300...now over 2,000.
ETH has nearly doubled since the mid 70s

No kidding. I'm steady buying but it seems really risky.

I leave for 3 days and come back to see my investment double

Unreal dude.
I'm sure it's going to level off at some point but shite, what's the limit for this thing?
$300? $500?

I think the limit is in the multiple thousands, granted I know nothing.
But hell if btc can get to 2k and all that is is a currency, seems like eth as an entire platform that is being backed by major corporations before going mainstream, and could legit change the way the world works...seems like it could fetch more than btc.

I'm not touching my stash. Originally thought about selling some as it jumped but screwed it.
This was a high risk/reward play from the start so I'm not going to deviate.

Yeah, while bitcoin has the luxury of being first I think ETH has the most realistic shot at being best.

They're always going to be different. BTC is one that by design has no tie or affiliation to any government entity. It'll probably be (if not already) the gold of the future.
ETH is cryptocurrency that's all in on being able to translate from country to country. Just a different design.

That's a good way to think about it. The versatility of ETH I think isn't even fully understood right now. My mind goes a thousand places thinking about what decentralizing these massive industries would mean.

I'm on the fence about buying more. Think it's too late?

I grabbed a handful more this am. Think I will hold what I have for now. Around 45 units.
