Thought about it. But I’d have to use different app. No big deal but once I potentially double, if it goes to $1, I’d have to sell to transfer my earnings and Pay taxes. Rather not.

If it goes to a dollar your going to have to sell it anyway. There’s your taxable event. Doesn’t matter if you transfer it after.

No, any transfer from one coin to another, or one coin to USD, is a taxable event.

How does it work if you’re swapping between coins but the actual USD value is going down, or is less than the “purchase” price?

You can subtract that "loss" from any other gains you had.
Example
Bought 1 BTC for $50,000
Swapped 1 BTC while it is priced at $47,000 for 15 ETH
You can subtract the $3,000 "loss" from any other gains you have in a taxable year.
At least that is how my CPA explained it
