is there some kind of strategy here? or is it just "not your keys..." mentality?

I never used to have an issue leaving everything I own on the exchanges, but the phrase “not your key, not your BTC” never stopped ringing in my head.

Network fee was pretty low too. Like three thousand satoshis.

No doubt. Even after double and triple checking that address I still get nervous clicking send.

bitcoins leaving coinbase in droves

Lots of bull signs right now. I was hoping for a big clean out down to high 20s to really juice a big run, but this isn't bad either.

There have been so many huge buys on coinbase on this dip. I think a monster wave of public announcements is about to drop. Im guessing at least 5 large companies announce something over the next month

Yes, but I will use whatever exchange has the coin I want. Then add it to my wallet. I do not have a cold storage wallet yet but I will get one soon. My holdings are minimal but if I had over a certain amount no way I leave that n an exchange.

yea i got off the waitlist and then never went through the KYC process so no real experience. the interest rates were not as high as i currently get so i didnt mess with it.

i only have 3 coins right now, mostly just HODLing, but i feel like voyager would be great for active traders

I understand the sense of having your coin in you’re own personal wallet, but I feel more uncomfortable with them on my computer that could also crash and fry at any moment. It’d be a rare occurrence, but it could still happen. It’s kinda why I don’t keep my current normal fiat savings in my back pocket with my normal wallet. Me losing it seems more probable in my pocket than it does at a bank.

Coins in a wallet are not on your computer. Not negating your basic idea though. Everyone should decide what's best for them but the idea that you can't keep coins on an exchange are a bit overstated in my opinion.

Here is Real Vision co-founder Raoul Pal with a slightly bullish take on the future of crypto...

Raoul Pal Says Bitcoin and Crypto Will Soar to $100 Trillion

quote:

Pal believes that the market cap of Bitcoin and crypto can soar at least 100x from its current valuation of about $1.7 trillion.

quote:

“I’m finding it fascinating to see traditional finance and business people first trying to get their heads around BTC, then other crypto protocols, then DeFi (decentralized finance) and now NFTs (non-fungible tokens). At every single stage in the rapidly evolving ecosystem, they have used mean-revertionist thinking as opposed to exponential network effects analysis and therefore everything looks like a bubble or a misallocation of capital.”

quote:

This space will not be a $1.7 trillion ecosystem as it is today but a multi-hundred trillion dollar ecosystem eventually. You can embrace change or fight it, but you owe it to yourself to understand it as the pace of innovation is going exponential too.”

can you elaborate? that's how i understood it. i guess it depends the wallet? i've read a few reddit comments that some wallets are web based that are still prone to hacks. like the exodus wallet for example. i haven't researched wallets as much as i should have though so i really don't know how the work behind the scenes.

He means they’re on a drive, not a computer. Your point still stands valid though. You have to protect the hardware on which hour coins reside.
