Things are starting to get intense between North and South Korea. If they go to war, what impact will it have on our economy if any? Also, will it effect oil prices at all?

oil will go up.

economy will go wait and see. Every assumes that NK would get stomped within 5 days. But you never know.

When NK has been out of the focus of the international spotlight for too long, they throw a hissy and pull some shite like this. Lil Kim learned it from his father.

They'll talk tough and rattle sabers until someone sits at a table to talk with them. They'll make some minor demands, claim victory, then stfu.

Seriously, what the hell is a "quasi-state of war"??

It's all just another cry for attention.

Sorry for my ignorance but what would make oil go up? Does either country have much play in the global oil?

Even more interesting, I wonder if a war did break out and last for any considerable amount of time would any of South Korea's heavy machinery fabrication industry trickle back over here. I know a lot of the very large oil and gas fabrication work occurs over there.

Most interesting to me - If North Korea has little chance to win via conventional war why would they keep their nukes out of the game? This is the true SHTF scenario. Do we go tit-for-tat with their nuke launches? Time to short Samsung?

Technically, they already have an armistace which is nothing more than a glorified cease fire. So, oddly enough, they were already in a quasi-state of war...lol

speculators will drive up prices on fears of the conflict expanding.

North Korea has the 5th largest army in the world, they have nukes, and chemical weapons. Even if they just use conventional weapons they have over 1,000 ballistic missiles and 700 long-range artillery pieces, all capable of hitting Seoul a city of ten million.

Their people are starving but,

quote:

Despite the general fuel and ammunition shortages for training, it is estimated that the wartime strategic reserves of food for the army are sufficient to feed the regular troops for 500 days, while fuel and ammunition - amounting to 1.5 million and 1.7 million tonnes respectively - are sufficient to wage a full-scale war for 100 days
