I am trying to pick some defensive stocks to put a little cash flow in with all the uncertainty with tariffs and the economy and all.

Anyone got any thoughts on this or something else that tends to weather a possible economic downturn? TIA

DG, Campbell’s, Waste Management, or just save cash and buy leveraged funds when they drop 40%

Instead of stocks look into funds like VUG and VOO.

He’s been hoarding cash for years. In 2021 he held $146 billion. By 2025, that number has swelled to $340 billion. Contrary to his own advice formerly.

"Cash is always a bad investment", said Buffett. He views cash as a depreciating asset due to inflation, which erodes its purchasing power over time. He's even compared cash to oxygen, necessary, but only in reasonable doses, saying "You don't need to have excessive amounts of it around."

I am considering Netflix. Berkshire is another.

Netflix isn’t directly impacted by tariffs but that didn’t stop it from getting thrown out in April with the other higher beta names.

I wouldn’t buy it for the reasons you’re searching for in your OP. That’s not to say it won’t work long term though.

You want a defensive group, buy utilities. XLU was up Friday, for example. Saw a little April sell off but owns still faring better than overall market in that stretch.

Not a good day for NFLX. Down almost 10% at the moment.

Have held for a decade…Does this often if it doesn’t meet pundits unrealistic expectations. No fundamentals have changed, it will bounce back as usual. I’m up over 1000% so no worries here.

IT dropped back down to where it was a month few months ago. Wouldnt touch until it drops more. A lot more downward potential than up in the upcoming months.

WB is not a dumb man. I am curious what he has been doing with that cash in the short term to combat the inflation erosion.

Netflix announced a 10:1 forward split scheduled for 11/17, what are the MB's thoughts on this?

Netflix is worth owning regardless of the split. The split is good news, but wouldn't make that the primary criteria for investing in it.
