Yes.

Buying calls is not a naked strategy because you’re not on the hook to fulfill anything. You just lose your principal.

Gotcha.

So step one of doing calls is accumulating a lot of shares.

I'm trying to get learnt

I usually don’t buy options outside of my Roth, but check out these short dated beauties that I bought yesterday and held overnight.
Hoping to off load them right at open.

Nice pickup BB88

I think it’s going to go up much like yesterday. Looking at the calls/puts on NVDA, looks like expectation is for a roughly 6-7% swing on NVDA earnings. Lot of people will be betting on the AI market throughout the day, IMO

I could honestly see NBIS up 4-5% today or close to $75 at some point today.

I planned very few work activities today and will be very active on the screens

I think step 1 is educating yourself on the terminology and definitions of options. There are quite a few ways to play options.

The "easiest" is probably: Buy to Open - basically, you are buying the rights to purchase 100 shares (a contract) at a set stock price, while paying a premium per share to do so. You can then sell those rights prior to execution date and are not obligated to purchase the 100 shares per contract - that is what BB88 and I are talking about most here

But first, you really need to check out some Options 101 sites and get "learnt" ;)

I only occasionally dabble in options calls, but I have 5 sept 12th calls with a strike price of $105 that absolutely need a good report from NVDA. It's CRWV, and I should have known better. I bought them when the stock was mid-90's and it's been sinking ever since.

I should have stuck to NBIS, but I've still got my fingers crossed. I still think my CRWV stock that I bought at $95 is going to pay off - just maybe not in a time frame to help with my options. I want it to shoot up so I can sell it. I put all my reserve cash into the CRWV, and I hate not having any dry powder to make opportunity buys. I was hoping the CRWV "opportunity" would pay off quickly...

Right so I guess I was confusing two different types of options. What yall are doing doesn't require you to have the shares. Y'all are buying options rather than writing?

Off topic, but can you get approved to the UGA board? Been trying for weeks now with no luck.

For covered calls yes. There is zero risk of losing principal in covered calls. You can only miss out on upside potential.

For buying calls, you just need a few hundred or a few thousand dollars.
But you need to have a reason for purchasing and a sell price in mind.

Totally agree.

You need to know this like you know 2+2:

Select Action:
BTO - Buy to Open
BTC - Buy to Close
STO - Sell to Open
STC - Sell to Close

Interesting start….looks like the AI shorts at at it again. Premarket up across the board and down on open. Hopefully we see the same action we did the last few days where NBIS fights back strong and gets its high in the middle of the day

Just took a look. I thought NBIS and CRWV would be in tandem, depending on what the mood was about NVDA. CRWV is well up and NBIS is down.

I still feel like this is going to be kind of a neutral day and that things will trend toward zero by the end of the day. I think tomorrow is where things get crazy...

On my lunch break and I noticed that CRWV is up a good bit, and my 5 9/12 call at strike price of $105 is green, now. Should I get rid of it and make a couple hundred, or hang on and look for a bigger score?

What do you think CRWV is going to do?

So much hinges on NVDA earnings this afternoon. It's almost binary.
Personally, it's in my nature to take profits on 3 of 5 contracts.
Even if NVDA earnings disappoint, you will likely have time to recover.

You can also roll up and out later if needed.

This is what I was leaning towards. I'm not as confident in the predictability of CRWV as I am with NBIS. I think if I hang on to my shares of CRWV for a couple of months, I will be pleased. I just don't have the same confidence in the calls with a strike date a couple of weeks out.

ETA: I'm going to hang on through the earnings report...

Really thought NBIS would be the one up 5% today. Shocking that CRWV is leading this group like this today

Added to the 8/29s today and got rid of all 15 contracts for a slight profit.
IV seems way down...

I think the market is kinda waiting on NVDA, but CRWV is priced low, whether NVDA does well or not. If NVDA does well, CRWV and NBIS are going to take off. If NVDA does "okay", I think CRWV will still do well in the next couple of weeks.

That was my plan when I bought the calls. Until today, it looked like a bad bet...

I’ve had my finger on the trigger so many times today and didn’t push. Guess I’m going to ride this into NVDA earnings. Ugh
