I work for ITT Exelis in Afghanistan on FOB Shank
Iraq pays the same rates too.
look @ clearancejobs.com too
the first 94k is exempt from taxes as long as you stay out of the US for 330 out of 365 days
Even entry level jobs like help desk pay near 100k

I've got an MIS degree, with a focus on DB Admin / programming. I actually took one of the first jobs I was offered out of school to get some experience and because I was really afraid of how tough it was going to be to find a job at all (this was 2.5 years ago). I work at a non-profit in a pretty entry level type of gig on the networking/system admin side of things. I'm happy with where I started out salary wise, but will be looking to change it up soon as I don't have any real room to grow here. I do absolutely nothing with DB Admin/Programming stuff but I am in the IT field.
I'm also in Birmingham, so there doesn't seem to be as many big opportunities out here as a major city like an ATL or something like that.

That.
Is.
What's.
Up!
I'd go in a heartbeat, but I'd have to be single. I start to miss the wife and kids after 2 nights on business trips.

Oh I miss the Wifey and Kid. A Lot.
But you do what you need to to achieve your goals.

Truth.
If i didn't like my job i think i would consider it. I would probably be OK after a month or so. But it definitely wouldn't be easy. You guys earn every penny of the coin they pay you!

Where you in military? I thought about doing something like this, but I don't have a military background. My current title is a Senior System Administrator.

You then have to pay income taxes in whatever country you are living...which can suck depending where you are.
If I ever move abroad for a couple of years, then I will be planning on saving a grand total of $0 while there. Live it up while there and make up for it on return to the States.

I have a lot of coworkers that have MIS degrees from UT, TAMU & TX Tech. They are doing IT Risk Consulting and Auditing (everything from penetration tests to ITGC sox testing). Starting salary is around $55k I think and a lot of room for growth.
Auditing/"Consulting" probably isn't a bad way to start a career for an MIS major and pays pretty decently. And I know we are hiring a lot in Houston right now.
I know a lot in this field as well and their starting was $56k, which is higher than the rest of Risk/IA, Audit, and Tax. They're all above $60k on their second year. The pay is great but the work drives some of them crazy.
