So I went to Annualcreditreport.com not long ago and pulled me Experian report to get a feel for what my credit looks like. My credit history is not huge. (2 Credit cards, Small no interest loan for <$1,000, and a Credit building loan from my bank for $1,000) Don't have a Mortgage or vehicle loan. I also don't miss payments.

When I got the report it's like 14 pages long. Well apparently ALL of my sister's credit history shows up on my report . Our SSN's are 1 number off and our names are one letter in difference, so I'm assuming that's causing the confusion.

Her credit history SUCKS and drops my score tremendously.. Where do I go from here and how do I solve this problem? When I do go to get that mortgage loan or vehicle loan I'll be shite out of luck with the report I have now.

You need to raise 8 kinds of hell with all three credit agencies. They have a legal obligation to investigate & correct any wrongful entries on your report. The worst part is, you will probably have to repeat this on an annual basis to make sure that more of your sister's info doesn't creep onto your report.

Yeah mom & dad didn't do you any favors here.

when i was at LSU TOPS was hacked one summer (04 or 05 maybe) and everyone enrolled in summer classes was subjected to their info being shopped out. well, i was one of those people. it was a huge PITA to get cleared up. multiple fraud reports, police reports, and dealing w/ the f-ing credit bureaus... and all of this was with LSU's assistance. i still check often to make sure this type of thing doesn't happen again.

What's weird is that I believe Transunion has it right, but Experian and Equifax have it all screwed up. Very aggravating. I almost didn't get approved for interest free on one of the loans until I got on the phone with the credit person and explained to them what was all going on..

Yeah and what's stupid is my sister and I are 3 years apart.

After you get this cleared up, which shouldn't be too bad since no fraud was involved here, you should set up a fraud alert with the three major credit bureaus.

That way, if your sister applies for credit in the future and the lender/retailer goofs and accesses your file, you'll get a phone call before approval and you can squash it before it happens.

That should make it easier, since at least your dob is different. I assumed you were twins.

So I guess my question is how do i go about raising these 8 kinds of hell because I certainly want to. Is it a matter of calling someone or does it all have to be done online?

The specific mechanics of it I don't know, but just google "credit report dispute [Transunion/Experian]" and you should find it pretty easily. Even if you do it by phone, I would suggest creating some kind of paper trail, ie, after the conversation email them saying "I called you on _ date and discussed _. This is what we agreed to do next." Don't be shy about following up if necessary.

Solid advice in this thread. Contact all the bureaus and dispute the report. They are legally obligated to dig into it. Once it is all taken care of you need to check every so often, which is a good habit to get into for anyone.

I'm thinking your sister may have used your SSN when her credit got screwed up. Have you been able to be sure she didn't hijack your SSN?

Dispute all of her credit stuff with the online credit dispute on Experian.

Call Experian.

Just for clarification, you didn't co-sign any of your sister's loans, did you?

You can call, but it might be better to do it online. They do a pretty good job with online dispute resolution and error corrections.

I'm very sure she hasn't hijacked my SSN.

No, I didn't. The only loan she's applied for is a vehicle loan last year. Other than that just a shite ton of credit cards dating back to '05 (when I was still in highschool)

We have lived at the same address for so many years in the past. Like I said our SSNs are exactly the same except for the last digit. Really think its just errors/mistakes on the credit companies, but I may be wrong.

I'm going to get on correcting this ASAP.

When I pulled my credit report for the first time, I was in the opposite boat. One of the credit reports included two credit cards from my dad because I am a junior. My credit was so good that I had a credit card 10 years before I was born and was always paid on time.

That might be your saving grace.

Unless I'm mistaken, data from all three must match. How they compute the raw data may differ, but that baseline data must be the same.

Dispute the false accounts, and include your Transunion report as evidence (as well as anything else you have).

They then will have 30 days to prove if the information is accurate. If they can't, the report must come off your credit.

This is incorrect because not all creditors report to all 3 agencies. That is why when you apply for a mortgage, they pull from each reporting agency because some things may show up in one and not another.

From annualcreditreport.com, you should be able to pull your report from each agency and dispute any incorrect information from the website. It should give you ample space for an explanation as to why that particular item is being disputed. As someone else said on here, once you file the dispute, the agency has 30 days to investigate the dispute. If they find the information is incorrect, they have to remove it. I believe they also send you a copy of your updated report after the matter is resolved (within the 30 days). I would start by disputing what's incorrect, and if it doesn't get corrected, then it might be time to get nasty.
