Meanwhile, the average American will make well over $40,000

Time for this inequality to stop

Here is one simple trick to recoup those losses:

Make 15 billion Starbucks lattes at home.

I don't know how facebook recovers. I know they're trying to branch out into metaverse because their social media apps are getting destroyed by tiktok, but there just aren't many adults that want to put on a headset and sit in a virtual world. I own an oculus and its novelty wears off fairly quickly. Also have to look at apple crippling their targeted ads business which is what makes them so profitable in the first place.

I’m more than willing to roll the dice on Facebook and I haven’t used FB or any of their products in ~10 years. It could take a while, because I agree with you, the metaverse in our current understanding of it and being in my 30’s sounds pretty fricking stupid- but with their resources and cash I’ll stick around to see what 3 and 4 year olds think 10-15 years from now. Most likely wont be worthless with a legit chance to be my largest holding by miles.

Great! Couldn't happen to nicer guy.

Not that he is nice, just self-centered.

Yeah, that's kind of how I feel about it.

Also, I listened to the most recent JRE podcast with Zuck and his VR/AR visions actually sound more interesting than what I originally thought. Could be something big here. Of course this doesn't necessarily mean Zuck will be the one to figure it out, because the space is so new, but he's got more capital than pretty much anyone else so the odds are in his favor.

He created a product that changed the world forever. And, then found a way to monetize said product. And, grew it into a global product with billions of users.

How can you be shocked that the inventor of said product is worth obscene amounts?

I am in at $177 which was awesome for a long time haha.

It still owns all of the attention between Instagram and FB for people 28-65. Elderly people are addicted to FB. That’s also not a good sign for the lifecycle of an app. As it ages up, that means attention in the younger demo is going elsewhere.

They have really struggled with Gen Z and I agree they are fighting an up hill battle. I’m in for the long haul. I also think they severely under-utilize their marketplace platform. It could be better than eBay if they’d let it.

Jokes aside, this is why taxes on unrealized gains makes zero sense. He could theoretically make that back next year, and people would be bitching about needing to tax him $40B. Paper wealth isn't real once you're big enough that your movements impact the market itself.

Also why the "share in the profits" arguments with respect to stock-paper wealth guys makes no sense.

First, employees make their real money on stock options, so they're in the same boat as the CEO/owner.

Second, those who don't have stock options aren't sharing in any of that loss when things flip.

My thoughts exactly. I've done a bunch of stereoscopic 3D over the years and a bit of VR, but the novelty attraction wears off quickly and the glasses or headset just become a pain.

Their marketing campaign looked like a trip to a third world museum or zoo too. The graphics quality was nasty compared to any half decent game that their core audience is likely familiar with. It looks to me to be a 70 billion dollar blunder.
