I know nothing about James, but took Darrat. Very hands off and delegated everything to my designated academic coach who misread the content of my emails. I think I made a 68% on every test, but aced the discussion posts and 4 case studies. I connected with several of my classmates through GroupMe and they also did poorly on the exams. He focuses on very minute details for his questions. This was my first course in the program, so perhaps that factored in. Ended with an A.

Anyone know anything about Finance 701? I want to take it AP 1, but will be out of town on family vacay in week 3, which makes me nervous. I've taken Accounting and curious as to how it compares. Any insight?

FIN701:
-Make sure you know Excel and/or Financial Calculator
-Read a finance book beforehand if finance experience is minimal and get a head start. (Vines "textbook" comprises of a short MS Word doc each week)

Took ACCT701 last fall and it was a lot less time consuming for me. Course structure was better with a textbook and better learning experience IMO. Vines does have 4-5 Zoom sessions per week (he records if you can't attend live) but course is sorely lacking w/o a textbook.

Personal experience is going to determine how time consuming course is. I spent 25+ hrs/week with FIN701 with little finance experience going in.

Happy Easter.

I really feel for anyone taking a course alongside this MADM715 course. Outside of taking ISDS705 (if structure unchanged), not sure how it's possible.

Is anyone actually handwriting notes per her suggestion?

Oh dear... I think at this point I have to quit printing the MADM 715 readings. 230 pages... REALLY?

... and yes, I'm handwriting notes.... old school

I am very thankful that I am taking MADM 760 alongside 715, and the fact that these are my last two courses of the program. Though she counted 230 pages, I counted about 245 of just .pdf and word documents. That is not including the 4 website links. I put these into a word doc and it equal 70 more pages of reading. So around 315 pages total? Plus 40 PPT slides!

Not sure how I am supposed to get the project done? Good luck to everyone, I am excited for the end of course survey.

Just noticed a possible glitch/oversight in the grading. We had that 10-point "bonus quiz". Looks like the 10 bonus points are counting towards the total possible points -- not much of a bonus other than being a really easy quiz.
I actually emailed him about this over a week ago and he never responded. I need to email him again. I'm using my own spreadsheet to calculate my grade now.

I'm so frustrated with this Healthcare Informatics class. I have a good grade but the professor is telling us to read one thing but testing us on something different.

If anyone wants to use the actual book our professor is testing us from, message me here and I'll send you an email.

This is the same thing going on in MADM730, International Business. Just another victim of the no textbook policy.

In MADM730, it looks like the questions are auto generated from the full text while Dr. Menon creates powerpoints with notes from the full text. About 20% of the questions each week are not mentioned in his powerpoints. Also the questions are trivial as opposed to application in nature which is another whole thread.

The no text situation is such a big problem with the quality of this program right now. Someone in our 715 course just posted about it. Really couldn't put it better than he did.

Eventually it's going to impact enrollment because the quality is so poor. There's going to come a time where people aren't 7-10 courses deep into the program to where it doesn't make sense to change programs.

The problem isn't confined to just new professors. The tenured professors may be better able to handle the no text situation than new professors. My last 2 courses are from professors with decades experience at LSUS and the course material is so very poor. My intent isn't to bury the professors as there's only so much they can do on the fly if they don't have a written text of their own already. It results in copy/paste internet info ("textbook") we're getting in 715. Or the MS Word doc "textbook" we got in FIN701 that had little meat at all to it. Nice supplemental document but had no business being the primary learning material of a finance course at any university level.

If you're looking to just get an MBA, sure attend LSUS. If you're looking for quality, I'd highly suggest going elsewhere until the no text situation is resolved.

I work for McGraw-Hill Education and I can tell you all that this no book/free book initiative is not just an LSUS thing. Its a nationwide initiative, thats happening at pretty much all Universities and Colleges. Our sales have tanked because of it but from a learning perspective, we are hearing lots of complaints from students who are not satisfied with these free books. SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT: MHE is trying to help lower book costs for students by offering students rentals, this is huge especially if your using our smartbooks and connect products.

Should Data Analytics ISDS 710 be taken after some of the 701/702 quantitative classes or does it matter?
I asked the same question to one of the LSUS counselors when I first started the program and they said, other than the pre-req courses (assuming you need them), any course can be taken in any order.

I've found that to be true and I have 3 classes remaining after this session is complete. I will be taking ISDS 710 next, ISDS 702, and then MKT 701.

Are the exams proctored for FIN701?

EDIT: My mistake, exams were not proctored, just timed. Apologies for the confusion!

Biggest thing was making sure you understand enough to explain the concepts in your own words and have the formulas in an excel ready to go. FIN701 wasn't that bad IMO.

@craig_miamifl Is there a 715 GroupMe? If so, I missed the link.

To my knowledge there's not a 715 GroupMe.

I don't think the FIN701 exams were proctored last session (Vines). He wanted us to use our notes and didn't want us to have issues with the proctor.

There was a 1 hour time limit for 10 questions (random mix of QUAN/QUAL) so be well prepared, rewrite his study guide and you'll do fine. Rewriting his study guide will allow you to more or less copy and paste your rewritten notes into his exam.
